Re: What Happened To Deanna Durbin

It actually came from a stitched framed statement given to us by a friend to hang on our wall. I liked it a lot so I adopted it.

Re: Deanna Durbin and why did she really retire?

That is a good thought. Along those lines Deanna appeared in her film "Lady On A Train" and for that film she was a blond and a witness to an apparent murder she saw through the train window. She then pursued to solve the murder and did a wonderful job of acting in this mystery. It was kin...

Yes, that is it. I apologize for being geriatric. I do not lose my way on purpose but occasionally it gets me.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Last night I saw "Gilda" (1946-B/W) with Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford. It was a very good Foreign Intrigue movie. Rita was astonishingly beautiful and Glenn Ford must have lit 50 cigarettes in the movie. I enjoyed it.

Re: It's official - we're collecting Musicals

We are back to the old controversy of “what is a musical”? There are Busby Berkley staged musicals with prolonged dance numbers involving hundreds of performers. There are West Side Story musicals where every 6 minutes someone bursts in to song. Then there is my favorite type of musical where a very...

What Happened To Deanna Durbin

Every single musical biography of performers and songwriters that I have seen, and there were very many, had "Cameos" from just about every major musical star around. But not one appearance from Deanna Durbin. Why not? Was it her studio, Universal. Or her controlling team like parents or m...

Re: This and that and your opinions

At least Meryl Streep tries all the accents. And today's movies generaly employ foreign speaking people with the exception of Americans. There seems to be a run on people from Europe who develop and speak American. It is startling to hear Toni Collete and Hugh Laurie speak on TV in their native tong...

Re: This and that and your opinions

Now you rang my bells. I have long wondered why people in movies enter an apartment or their home and immediately run to the liquor bottles as though the story could not continue without a drink. Also the ice bucket always has ice in it. The same is true of coffee. There is always a pot of coffee re...

Legs On Screen

I have become fascinated with the claims and display of Lady's legs on the screen. Betty Grable insured her legs for 1 million dollars. So I have been staring at everyone's legs. I am not impressed with my findings. Many famous people have skinny and no shape legs, like Judy Garland. Rita Hayworth i...

Re: Meet Me In St. Louis

Very nice photos. Judy was, perhaps, the most beautiful of her illustrious career in this movie. I cringe at some of her movies when she obviously over dieted and looks gaunt. I like my women with meat on them, not that she was fat because she was not.

Re: Movie Palaces, Cinemas and Theaters of Yesterday and Today

I am shocked at the prices charged for going to a movie theater today. I wonder what the future can be for theaters. I recently went to see the new Julia Roberts movie (Eat Pray Love) with my wife but elected to go at 12:30PM for a matinee and cheaper rate. The theater we chose was a very old but re...
