Re: The Q & A with J.R. Jones about THE LIVES OF ROBERT RYAN
Happy Birthday, Mr. Jones. I have a rather esoteric question that may be beyond the range of your research, but I would like to preface it with an story that I have wanted to tell to our friends on the Oasis for a long time. About thirty-five years ago, I took a dear friend to see Inferno. She was v...

Re: Welcome to Writer Cari Beauchamp!
Hello, Cari. I have two questions about Frances Marion.
1) Are any of the films that she acted in known to have survived?
2) Why was her script for 7th Heaven not used? There is nothing wrong with Benjamin Glazer's, but she and Borzage had worked so well together in the past.

You're welcome, Fedo. Among all the tragic stories of Hollywood, this may be the worst.

Indeed it is, Wendy. I wonder if any of her films have survived, and if anyone here has seen any.

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Dear Friends, Those of you who have read some of my Lost Women of Hollywood know that those included are all people whose work I have seen and recognized as actors of talent. Yesterday, though, I was reminded of Lucille Ricksen, a silent star I have never seen, but who is certainly Lost, though bare...

At this point, Mr. Eyman, I just want to thank you for your many fine books, but especially the excellent Lubitsch biography. More later, but again thanks.

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Oh yes, Theresa, most academic writers can be a trial. It seems fairly clear that most of them do love movies. Or else why would they spend so much time seeing them and learning about them? But in the books that I have been reading lately about the history of Italian film, it is rare to find any sta...

Fealto, you have hit the nail right on the head about Theresa's writing! I have been reading a lot of academic film writing lately, and I really needed a major dose of Theresa Brown!

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Theresa, you have got Lubitsch's number! And how! Many tons of ink have been spilled writing about Trouble in Paradise, but you have said it all. Great director with a great script (the incomparable Samson Raphelson!), an unbelievably perfect cast, and as you point out great clothes, at least for th...

I wouldn't call that "meet cute", Theresa. That's more like meet powerful! Francis, Brent, and William are all at their best in this one.
