Maureen Bio

Tis Herself Maureen O' Hara's Bio is one film autobiography that I would recommend . A number of review on Amazon.com thought it a little self - centered. I didn't.

The Maltese Falcon

The 1931 version with Ricardo Cortez and Bebe Daniels IMHO was pre - code and more frank in its sexual implications than the Bogart - Huston version, except when it came to " the Fatman - Wilmer - Cairo " connection, or am I missing something ? 8)

Rosalind Russell

Fantastic in George Cukor's " The Women ". She was also exceptionally good in " Mourning Becomes Electra ". Her " Auntie Mame " was a tour deforce ( if one is permitted to use that term in regard to comedy ) Any thoughts, pro or con ?

The Best U.S President

I think the GW Bush is the worst in U.S. History, who are your nominees for the best. A second question - Who would you like to see as the next President ?

Ella Raines

Many months ago, on the TCM boards, I started an Ella thread, recently another Ella thread emerged " over there ". She was one of the great ladies of 40's noir, she was also in that very entertaining John Wayne Western - Comedy - Mystery " Tall in the Saddle ", with Gabby Hayes. ...

Favorite John Wayne Western - NOT Directed by John Ford

Red River Directed by Howard Hawks. El Dorado by Hawks, and The Dark Command by Raoul Walsh get my votes. True Grit Directed by Henry Hathaway is fairly low on my list. Tall in the Saddle, with Ella Raines, is a more entertaing film than Grit.

Western Leading Ladies

I think Anita Morris would have been great in Westerns, at a Dance Hall Gal. On the other hand today's few Film Western are not to my liking, so I am so that she would have been wasted.

Ill Used Ladies of the Films

If Linda Darnell was not at Fox I believe her career would have been more noteworthy. RKO and Fox ( to a lesser degree ) miss used Maureen O " Hara. Joan Bennett needed Fritz Lang Direction to show her true talent. Ann Dvorak, perhaps because of her temperment, career was most disappointing. Th...

Thieves Highway

Another fantastic noir from Jules Dassin. Lee Cobb steals the film, but Valentina Cotesa is great ( and very sexy ). Morris Carnovsky and Jack Oakie also shine. Richard Conte stars and is very good. The DVD include an interview with Dassin and his comments along are worth the price.

Mitchum, Greer - The Big Steal

Is a fast paced witty noirish mystery - chase film with Mitchum up against Wiiliam Bendix, Ptric Knowles, and John Qualen ( what ) and Ms greer. It is great fun, from RKO with Don Siegel directing, one of his best and earliest. :? l

The Best New Film That You Have Seen

Being an eccentric recluse that never leaves the house I am unable to make a nomination, and anyway I stole this thread from the TCM Boards.
