Re: Fav. kid cartoons...

My favorite cartoons when I was a kid were Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, and Spongebob Squarepants. Dexter's Lab always had really silly plots, like this one where Dexter and his nemesis turn the presidents in Mount Rushmore into giant fighting robots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmU...

Perhaps I somehow missed it, but I don't think TCM did anything for Alan Arkin either, which made me sad. I was hoping they would play some of his movies at least.

Re: I Just Watched...

GLENGARRY GLENROSS (1992) on TCM last night. I watched this for the first time the day before yesterday, and I can't stop thinking about it. The evening I watched it, I was working on some crafts and just thought I'd just give it half my attention by playing it in the background, but it was so much...

Re: I Just Watched...

I just watched "Tea and Sympathy" and I think it is interesting how many of the reviews of the film state that the plot revolved around homosexuality. Perhaps the original play did, and perhaps I am just projecting, but I got the impression that the character Tom in the film was demisexual...

How could I forget Wings of Desire (1987)? It's another breathtaking film. Here are a few of my favorite shots and scenes from it. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/h7L4KnE_mxw/maxresdefault.jpg https://reellibrarians.files.wordpress.com/2017/12/wingsofdesirelibraryacoustics.jpg This scene always moves me to t...

Re: OBITUARIES

I am so sad to hear about Alan Arkin. He was my favorite living actor. He seemed like such an interesting person and I thoroughly enjoyed reading his books about his experiences and ideas about spirituality.

Re: What B&W films would you consider visually "beautiful"?

A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935) is probably the most visually stunning films I have ever seen. The soft focus and the exaggerated sparkles used in the scenes in the fairy forest give the setting an ethereal quality and are just gorgeous. Apologies for the low-quality videos. These were the only on...

Re: Why were so many game show hosts such lowlifes?

The host of "What's My Line?", John Charles Daly, seemed like a nice enough person. He's definitely my favorite host of any game show for his intelligence, tact and fun sense of humor. In fact, the entire cast of the show (with some exceptions) seemed to be mostly respectful and played off...
