Re: YOU Tube'n
The breadbasket midwest states are so rural and foreign to me. I live near a large city but travel a lot in the summers to visit the west, and we usually stop in a lot of random very small towns on the way. They're like another country. Little traditions, pastimes, day to day activities, what have y...

Wooden stars? I enjoy both movies but lean toward the remake because of Grant. I watched, but never cared for, the Beatty/Bening version.

That pic of Maximilian Schell looks so modern, like it could have been of a current star, this year.

Thanks for the info. I really like that one with just the red enhanced and the rest left black and white!

I'd never have guessed.Rita Hayworth wrote:To me, she was the The Total Package.
Why is it there are so many photos that are both color and black and white versions? Is it just something they did back then, colorizing after the fact?

Happy Thanksgiving to a great community! I may not post all that often (or have much to say that hasn't been said already), but I quite enjoy my time spent here.

That background hurts my eyes, but the foreground heals them.

I wasn't born yet. I can imagine the feeling that gripped the nation was very like 9/11; a sort of stunned, silenced nation. The stories above are very interesting, some quite insightful points made as well. My now departed grandfather always said that he felt America lost it's sense of what it was ...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I've been feeling a bit down lately so I turned to some classics which I have seen many times for a pick me up. It Happened One Night - Just a wonderful film, start to finish. Colbert and Gable have terrific chemistry and are put into an improbable situation, but they pull it off in grand comic fash...

I wonder if Netflix has CAGED. I let my membership expire, but I could re-join just for that! Isn't there another women's prison film we've discussed? Which is the favorite among our ranks? They don't; it's got "save" next to it, which from my experience when it come to classic films at N...

Dear Lomm, I try not to infringe too much on Joe's great thread here - maybe a little, if the birthday person is familiar and I remember something... Joe does have a tendancy to trigger memeories sometimes!!! I do "hold court" - or at least have done so - on an old thread called "Nel...

They way I understand any of these services is that all they have to do for the DVD service is buy the DVDs. They can send them out and don't have to have a special contract to do that. Streaming, I believe, they consider it more like broadcasting so they do need a special contract to do those. Som...

Re: Do You Have Trouble getting others to watch classics?
Most of my friends who do claim to love watching "old movies" don't actually mean it when the opportunity comes and I suggest it. So, I tend to watch while I work out (I have an elliptical in the TV room), by myself.
