Re: Noir Alley

Don't Bother to Knock (1952 - 20th Century Fox) is my favorite Monroe film; her screen persona is put to very good use by director Roy Baker. WIdmark is good, while Bancroft doesn't have much to do but looks great doing it. Also features iconic noir actor Elisha Cook Jr.

Re: TCM announces it is sunsetting the TCM Forums

Username "notananimal" posted this on the other site: " Just an FYI to any who may care, the TCM board is currently being backed up. Tried to reach out to the people on SSO as well, but their registration system is screwed up (never receiving activation emails, no board administrator...

Re: February 2023 Schedule Posted, Rita Moreno is SOTM

If TCM wishes to honor a Latino woman why not Katy Jurado. Jurado was in many more high qualify films than Moreno and had a lot more interesting roles; Bullfighter and the Lady, High Noon, Arrowhead, Broken Lance, The Racers, Trial, Trapeze, The Badlanders, One Eyed Jacks, Barabbas, Once Upon A Sca...

Re: Noir Alley

This week-ends feature is Mr. Soft Touch with Glenn Ford, Evelyn Keyes and John Ireland. Sounds familiar, but not sure if I have seen it or not. Mr. Soft Touch setting is Christmas time. A very light hearted noir with good chemistry between Ford and Keyes. Ireland is somewhat wasted as a news repor...

Yes, fine film. I like the fact that the Moore character is respectful.

Re: Five Things I Love About Martha Ivers

Big fan of Martha Ivers; Stanwyck and Heflin are top notch actors and while Douglas was just getting started, he does well. Liz Scott comes off as a newcomer but she is able to hold her own (since the others were able to help carry the important scenes Liz was in).

Yes, Penny Singleton had a small role. So did an actress that never made it big expect in fiction; Vickie Lester.

Re: Destry Rides Again!

Nope James, not "all the dark moments are played for laughs". The scene when Sheriff Dimsdale (Charles Winninger) gets gunned down in his office isn't exactly a laugh riot, ya know. This being just one example, and with many other examples being contained within scene that primarily featu...

Re: Destry Rides Again!

Some lighter moments? All of the "dark" moments are played for laughs. Even the shooting in the back is something to just pass over. I.e. we are not suppose to care (and either does Destry much), since he never really loved her (he clearly fell for the good gal). I.e. the rom-com wasn't b...

Re: Destry Rides Again!

I view this film as more of a rom-com set in the west, than a "true" western. Pre-WWII Jimmy Stewart was a good fit for this role, but I still favor his more gritty screen persona after he returned from WWII. I agree, james. Calling DESTRY RIDES AGAIN a Western is similar to calling DIE H...
