Re: I Just Watched...

YOU KNOW, my feelings about THE MUMMY and ZITA JOHANN'S performance in THE MUMMY are very much the same- I'm torn numerous times every minute between whether it's wonderful, awful, wonderfully awful, camp, meant in sincerity or tongue-in-cheek- one thing for damn sure, IT'S MEMORABLE and sure has s...

Re: I Just Watched...

[i ]i mean, full disclosure I've re-watched THE MUMMY (1933) in parts and in full since my review and it's such a nice restoration and there are scenes where DAVID MANNERS just GLOWS he's SO EFFING HANDSOME. [/i] https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.11859ed6ca570d2a7e7ae98fcc06c355?rik=CuWJYT0nqBfplg&ri...

Re: I Just Watched...

LHF, do you (or does anyone for that matter) know why the story was changed in the 1931 movie DRACULA to have Renfield visit Count Dracula's castle at the beginning rather than Jonathan Harker (as happens in Bram Stoker's source novel)? OMG AN UNSOLICITED DRACULA QUESTION!!!!! (I am not exactly an ...

Re: I Just Watched...

on that note, I watched THE GHOUL (1933)- also a PRISTINE PRINT and also on YOUTUBE- this is a BRITISH HORROR MOVIE that featured KARLOFF and is A LOT like both THE MUMMY and THE OLD DARK HOUSE- only really surprisingly violent (despite a low-to-none body count) and some weird comic relief scenes th...

Re: I Just Watched...

I DIDN'T mean to be harsh about THE MUMMY, it was one of my favorites when I was a kid and I certainly don't hate it, keep in mind also that I have seen it at least 30 times or more (seriously), so at this point, I might be really nitpicky. it's just that, like DRACULA (which I also love even thoug...

Re: I Just Watched...

I also have THIS COMPULSION where, even though I own them all on DVD- whenever any of the UNIVERSAL MONSTER FILMS become available on any format I have access to- I WILL WATCH. I dunno WHY but DRACULA (31), FRANKENSTEIN (31), THE WOLF MAN, THE INVISIBLE MAN and THE MUMMY (1933) are all on youtube (l...

Re: I Just Watched...

sorry to have been away, I've been working on a project that is consuming my time. I have watched A LOT OF STUFF, but first and foremost, I finished a FRANK BORZAGE film from 1934 called NO GREATER GLORY this morning (I started it a few Days back and watched in installments, sue me, I have ADD) OH M...

Re: I Just Watched...

One of the other fun things about THE MIND READER (1933) was that many of the women's costumes featured one of the more curious fashion trends of the time, which was to have TWO ENTIRE MINKS WITH HEADS and GLASS-EYES AND CLAWS ATTACHED, sort of lashed together and wrapped about the body- giving off ...

Re: I Just Watched...

I recall in our little discussion after you watched Poor Things that you said that Ruffalo and some other guy were really bad in it, and I know I said that I think you were referring to Carmichael, whose performance was really slated in online Oscar talk circles. Having not seen the man in Poor Thi...

Re: I Just Watched...

EVER SINCE they shuttered YE OLDE MESSAGEBOARDS I have had the hardest time watching what used to be one of my favorite genres of film- PRECODES, because I missed our discussions of them (and also I'm STILL mad at TCM.) that aside, I checked out THE MIND READER (1933) - a curious little precode wit...

Re: I Just Watched...

We just watched "The Case of the Treacherous Toupee" on Perry Mason. Season 4, Episode 1. William Talman is back as Hamilton Burger, so the team is reunited. And who is that handsome young man playing the no-good stepson? Why, none other than Robert Redford. What a treat. yES! I watched t...

Re: I Just Watched...

In the Cut (2003) was one of the biggest cinematic scandals of the early 2000s. There is a lot of nudity. It has some of Lorna's most hated film people all on one film (Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jane Campion ). no lies detected on JJL or Miss Campion, BUT...I was literally thinking the ot...

Re: I Just Watched...

I KNOW THE WIG and the episode you mention, but for my money- the official worst wig in MSW HISTORY appears in HANNIGAN'S WAKE (which is an otherwise GENUINELY Interesting season 7(?) episode with a good part for BRADFORD DILLMAN and the last appearance of VAN JOHNSON on the series.) they hired a 38...
