Re: The Must Sees?
I have a soft spot in my heart for Lazybones (1925). The title character, played by Buck Jones... Say, I've got "Lazybones" in that Murnau, Borzage & Fox set, and I've just seen Buck Jones for the very first time ( in a 1939 talkie, "Unmarried" ) and loved him. Think I'll ha...

Re: *CANDIDS*
What a lovely, lovely picture of the Duffs at home. It seems almost like a glimpse beyond The End of "Woman in Hiding". Only better.

I let you down, Ingenue. I was more or less awake during the "struggle in the lab scene". But not attentive enough to distinguish between between actor and stunt man. Even if it couldn't be done, thanks for having been willing, Red. My one viewing of "The Invisible Man's Revenge"...

Re: *CANDIDS*
Hepburn and Gable never made a movie together? Gracious! Sure enough. I wonder what that pairing would've been like?

Wendy, I think you're swell. You all are.
Sounds like I missed a good thing in "Underwater!" Next time.

Maybe I'm showing off my ignorance, but... Why is it dumb? It would have changed the story, sure. But Raft just wanted to be liked.
Maybe I should have had my name changed to The Bleeding Heart.

Re: "THE END" - HAPPY or SAD??
Oh, but I like this: But the point is.. after I watch a story, I don't want to feel "detached" from the characters by the end. I want to CARE about how they end up... rather than to just be left wondering WHAT in the world was THAT all about. I like it a lot. And it put words to something ...

Re: Gilbert Roland - A Latin Performer Unbounded
Seeing this thread show up again today, I thought I'd go back and catch what I've missed. And got caught up myself in this sideline: Uh-oh! I think we may be getting a "cease and desist" letter from The Lee Bowman Appreciation Society soon...which should give us another laugh or two. Oh. W...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Here are the stories, di rect ( by way of a publisher ) from the mouths of the men who made them happen. From Jack Oakie's Double Takes , pages 96 & 98: "One morning my agent, Morris Small, and I were sitting in my dressing room talking and looking out of my open door, when we noticed one o...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
How do, Maven! All is very well, and more so by the day. Thanks for asking. The Bridesmaid thread Wendy started looks so good, I almost don't want to read it and "use it up"--been sort of saving it. But I saw you put dibs on Gail Patrick and Melvyn Douglas. I love your post already. Is it ...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...
Next week is THE INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE. This is the one with John Carradine as the scientist, Jon Hall as the subject of his mad experiment. It's not very good, as I recall. But it's not one that turns up all the time either. I don't recall Svengoolie showing it before. If Bette Davis is not on a...

Re: The Must Sees?
Isn't every film crucial to film history? The domino effect: if this little nothing-of-a-picture weren't being made over here, then this actor ( or director, or producer, or... ) would have been free to work on that big-'un over there, and... We'd have a completely different story.
Just musing...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
...Durbin is singing this tragic aria, and the camera cuts to a group of old maids weeping their eyes out. We go from being moved by Durbin's music, to laughing at ourselves for reacting like the old maids do, to suddenly feeling joy when Robert Stack walks into the room and Durbin rushes into his ...
