Re: What Movie Related Book Have You Read Lately?
I just finished reading Making Movies" by Director Sidney Lumet. Great look at various steps involved in making movies. While he started directing towards the end of the studio system the book is a fascinating look behind the scenes of movie making in the '60s and later from the director who ga...

Re: Hope and Glory (1987)
What you say about how your dad didn't say much about being in the war was very common. My own father was a gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber and while he would gladly tell stories about his adventures in England and the places he went and folks he met he'd never talk about his combat experiences. I...

Re: Hope and Glory (1987)
Glad you liked it Dargo. What a small world. My father's brother served in the 3rd Armored Division as part of a tank crew during the war.

Re: Hope and Glory (1987)
Here's one I remember well and always felt a personal connection to. During World War 2 my dad served in the American 8th Air Force and for much or the war was based in England. He's long gone now, but I will always remember the time I went back home for a visit and it just happened to be the week t...

Re: What Original Broadways Have You Seen With Megastars
I will always remember the first show I ever saw on Broadway. It was the two-character musical I DO! I DO! which starred Robert Preston and Mary Martin. What a way to be introduced to Broadway shows.

Re: The Magnificent Seven
For what it's worth, as much as I love THE MAGIFICENT SEVEN, I've never made it through the sequels either. The original was so good in every way, how could they top it?

Definitely one of my all-time favorites. I can't count how many times I've seen it and I never get tired of it.

Re: The Wolf Man (1941)
On Halloween night our local film society ran Universal's stunning restoration of THE WOLF MAN. Projected on a big screen it just blew the audience away. I'm the digital operator and before the show people would ask me if was as good as they heard. I'd tell them how in the closeups one could actuall...

Re: TCM announces it is sunsetting the TCM Forums
Well, I'm back. Although I was a regular on the TCM boards for many years, I found in recent times, things were going downhill there and much of the fun was gone. I would read the boards but rarely replied. I'm ashamed to admit it but I just kind of forgot about this site. I'm so glad it's still goi...

Re: Storm Clouds in our Future?
Having worked in broadcasting for forty years, I can feel for our friends at TCM who are sweating out waiting for "the word" as to who's staying and who's going. Through various owners, we seemed to go through that about every ten years or so. I don't wish that anybody loses their job, but...
Re: LONGMIRE
[quote="t.....and has anyone heard, has it been renewed??? Big sigh.......[/quote] I haven't heard, but it's pretty early for an announcement. The show has done pretty good for the network, so it's likely that it will be back. Besides, if they weren't planning on it returning, I doubt they woul...

The end of an era
Although I haven't seen a formal announcement, the word is circulating, from those in the know, that the soon to be released 2015 edition of LEONARD MALTIN'S MOVIE GUIDE will be the last one. :( I have many reference books, but his yearly MOVIE GUIDE and in more resent years his CLASSIC MOVIE GUIDE ...

Re: Happy Valley, a new UK cop show with a difference
Stuart, thanks for posting this. My wife and I are big fans of British police shows, although what with release patterns here in the U.S. sometimes we seem to be the last to discover some of them. This winter we watched the first nine series of NEW TRICKS and are waiting series ten which is being re...

That's my problem. I've done all that, but when I put in the temp password it doesn't work.movieman1957 wrote:You'll have to reregister. It sends you an email with a temp password and then you sign in and go to your settings under your name to change it. You, hopefully, are in and ready. .

Re: TCM Message Boards Announcement
I've done everything they asked, putting in the "foot-long" alpha/numerical password they sent to confirm that I'm really me and still can't get in. I even sent an e-mail to the link they gave, but haven't heard back. Of course, it is the weekend and maybe nobody is there or perhaps they a...
