MichiganJ, Thanks for the info about the serials set, I love those. I have some on the American Archives Film Treasures sets and I have wanted to see more of them. I hope you recover soon :) I also prefer Fay Wray as a blonde and King Kong . is one of the first classic films I remember seeing as a k...

I’ve been busy at work the past couple weeks and at home so I haven’t had much time for posting. I’m glad you liked the movie. I thought it was a very unique telling of the story which is my favorite fairy tale. Of course, I’m glad people usually clean it up for films b/c the original has some rathe...

I'll throw in Fay Wray . She made around 32 silents and 83 talkies (including films and television appearances). She was well established as a young, rising star in the silent era and obviously made an easy transition to talkies. I wish the two silents she did with Gary Cooper were still around b/c ...

Jdb1 said: As far as why "we ladies" might like Westerns - speaking for myself, the primary attraction will always be the cowboys themselves. A compelling actor, got up in those long, lean jeans, and acting all laconic and macho, is usually worth looking at, at least for a few minutes. Thi...

I think many of Tom Mix’s silents have survived and are somewhere in Europe. I’ve tried to track down some of them b/c Gary Cooper had bit parts in a handful of them, but no such luck. I tried to find the page again where I found that info about them being in Europe (I think it was France) but I cou...

I’m happy to see my very fave actress Clara at the top spot and another of my faves from the silent era Colleen at # 2. Like Jeff said, it stinks that none of the four films Clara made in ’28 are still around; especially Red Hair which began with a two-strip color sequence. I have Colleen’s Lilac Ti...

I had a chance to watch Street Angel a few days ago and I really enjoyed it. I like Seventh Heaven better, but Street Angel was very good. I thought the scene at the beginning where Janet’s character (Angela) resorted to prostitution to get money for her sick mother’s medicine was done very well. Sh...

Hi Justin, You're right about there being various reasons many silent actors didn't fully make the transitions to talkies. I can only think of two off the top of my head whose thick accents were a hindrance (at least in the U.S.) and that's Vilma Banky and Emil Jannings. I don't think Jannings even ...

Hey Justin, I think what it is that I don't like about Miriam Hopkins is she seems like a stage actor. I don't know if she did any theater work but her gestures and speech seem more like she's doing a play rather than a movie. I love seeing plays, but that style doesn't work on film. I'm not real cr...

Yes, the pic of Gary is from PI . He had the moustache in Lives of a Bengal Lancer too, also released in '35. Thankfully he shaved it off after that. It looks alright, but he looks better without it. Clark definitely looked better with it. I just got the Forbidden Hollywood sets in the mail yesterda...

The Truth About Youth does sound very interesting and you had me cracking up talking about Myrna moving on to another sugar daddy! So far Night Nurse (which I saw months ago) and Three on a Match are the only ones I've seen from the second Forbidden Hollywood set. They all sound good though. I boug...

Clara is my favorite actress and it really is a shame she wasn’t given better pictures more often. Like you said though, her talent always shined through even the weakest material. I liked My Lady of Whims too. It was cute for what it was, just a fun movie about youth gone a little wild. My faves of...

I recently watched Seventh Heaven (1927) and City Girl (1929). Both star Charles Farrell with Janet Gaynor and Mary Duncan respectively. I would label them both romantic dramas and I really enjoyed them. I’d give the edge to Seventh Heaven though b/c there was a little more character development in ...
