Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I watched Hell’s Hinges (1916) this weekend and just loved it. It’s the first film I’ve seen of William S. Hart and I really liked him. I posted a long write up about at the TCM board and I’ll just post the link here if anyone wants to read it. http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=140...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Hey Justin, I have a feeling I’ll probably like Smiling Lieutenant the best too b/c I do like Claudette Colbert. I’m not real crazy about Miriam Hopkins, she comes off as too mannered sometimes, but I’m sure I’ll still enjoy it. Love Me Tonight does look good and I will probably buy it at some point...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I recently picked up the Lubitsch Musicals set from Eclipse and so far have only had time to watch The Love Parade starring Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald. I really wasn’t that impressed with MacDonald but Chevalier was so much fun to watch. I’m used to seeing him when he was much older in...

Re: The Proud Sheriff - Gary Cooper
He loved kids and it really shows in his scenes with them like in The Hanging Tree and with Shirley Temple in Now and Forever . Just reading the parts with his character and “Amy” turned me into a puddle of goo. :P This character would have been great for him; kinda like a mix of some of his earlier...

The Proud Sheriff - Gary Cooper
John Mulholland (film historian) recently sent me a copy of an extended treatment that Gary Cooper purchased for his Baroda production company in the late 50s. It was called The Proud Sheriff and was written by Alan Marcus and was based on the novel by Eugene Manlove Rhodes. It is 75 pages and is wr...

Hey Justin, I enjoyed The Marriage Circle too. That's funny that you've mostly seen Marie Prevost in talkies and I've mostly seen her in silents. Even though Esther Ralston only has a small part, I got this one to see her. I also like Florence Vidor and Adolphe Menjou and they were very good too. I ...

Hey Justin, In the 50s and 60s when her films were shown on TV, Clara got a big boost again as many younger people saw her for the first time. She was very surprised that anybody still cared or wanted to watch her films and she loved getting the fan mail and responded to them with letters and pictur...

Sandy, I like the Shirley Bassey remixes too. I can’t believe I forgot one of my very faves from the 20s (and into mid 30s) Annette Hanshaw. Here’s a video of her singing ‘We Just Couldn’t Say Goodbye’ which is the only instance of her on film. http://www.jazzage1920s.com/annettehanshaw/annettehansh...

That is wonderful to know the color portion of Red Hair survived. I thought it had been lost. I would love to get to see it one day. :D Out of my main four faves (Gary Cooper, Clara Bow, Barbara Stanwyck, and Jean Arthur) Clara is the only one I’ve yet to see on the big screen. I like Richard Arlen ...

I like a pretty wide variety of music with my fave being from the 1920s through 1960s. A couple of years ago when I began listening more to stuff from the 20s and 30s I realized how many songs that I had known my whole life were from that era. My grandma (born in ’33) would sing some of those songs ...

Count me as a huge Jean Arthur fan too. Jean, Stanywyck and Clara Bow are my very fave actresses. I recently watched The Devil and Miss Jones and Jean and Charles Coburn were such a good duo. I love the scene where Jean is trying to knock Charles out by hitting him over the head with a shoe and she ...

This is gonna be a long post so I apologize for hogging so much space. Here’s a complete list of Clara’s films that survive either in fragments or complete. An asterisk indicates they are available on dvd (mostly poor quality bootlegs). Beyond the Rainbow (1922) Down to the Sea in Ships (1922)* Enem...

According to the filmography in Stenn's book (I'm home now so I looked through it) here are the Clara Bow films we don't have (I'm assuming we have the same ones) that are still in print. Beyond the Rainbow (1922) 16mm complete Enemies of Women (1923) 35mm incomplete Poisoned Paradise (1924) 35mm co...
