laffite wrote: January 20th, 2024, 5:06 pm The first round bye teams look like sure winners and the fun therefore might be looking at the spreads. Would you bet on the underdogs if you got enough points?
I only bet on an underdog if I get what I believe is enough of a point spread to win the bet. Doing anything else would be foolish.

Re: Actresses

Out of all the actresses mentioned here, I view Dorothy Mackaill as the best choice. This is because she was only in one film after the Code was strictly enforced in July 1934, a British film, no less, Bulldog Drummond at Bay (1937). Mackaill's pre-code films, especially those for Warner Bros\Frist ...

More Knots Landing hairdon'ts..... Michele Lee... http://www.tellytalk.net/attachments/img_20230410_095750924-jpg.44673/ Didn't Joan Van Ark have a similar hairstyle in at least one episode like the one Michele Lee has here? I seem to be remember an episode in one of the early seasons (maybe the fi...

Re: Theater

I actually think Gloria Swanson's performance in the movie misses the opportunity to make Norma a little more human and less vampirish. To see a few traces of the Norma who does the Chaplin impersonation--smart, funny, talented--or at least someone who once was all those things--would make a richer...

Re: SPORTS

Unrelated to sports did you know that Winston Churchill's wartime false teeth are up for sale? I know how much you love the guy, and the price should only be around 10K (US). Didn't know that. You have to be a fanatic to pay for a celebrity's false teeth. While alive Churchswill was pretty much up ...

Re: Noir Alley

This week's Noir Alley film is Woman in Hiding (1950), with Ida Lupino, Howard Duff and Steve McNally. I've seen this Universal film and enjoyed it, mainly due to Ida Lupino's fine performance and McNally as the bad guy. Ida and Howard got married to each other shortly after the film was released. ...

Re: SPORTS

America's team got creamed. Not only did the Cowboys lose, they lost big, though the Green Bay defense got a little sloppy in the fourth quarter. The only thing missing was a shot of Jerry Jones at the end of the game having a meltdown. Maybe next year..... :smiley_sick: Unrelated to sports did you...

... And now you might call me crazy here, but while watching it again tonight, it dawned on me that it's actually a "neo-noir"! Uh-huh, I started thinking of both 'The Big Sleep' and 'Murder, My Sweet' while watching it tonight. (...and no, and if you might now be wondering here, I wasn't...

Re: I Just Watched...

She did so horror material on TV, but not theatri (unless you count 1969's Track of the Cat) One of the few films she was in after the 60s, the mediocre 1979 film Sunburn, her role in that wasa blip. I mean, why bother getting a well-known actress if she only had two or three minutes of screentime....

Re: Oh, the Shame of It

I was surprised how bad Blame it on Rio was given the casting of Caine and Bologna. The film came out less than 2 years after My Favorite Year, a film I believe Bologna should have received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. Now that film is funny, cute and just all around great, and it ...

This album really changed the direction of jazz music and is one of the reasons (if not THE reason) Miles will be remembered decades, if not centuries, from now.

Re: It Was a Very Good Year

1949 was a very good year for noir films, right up there with 1946 and 1947: Act of Violence (MGM) Border Incident (MGM) The Bribe (MGM) Chicago Deadline (Paramount) Criss Cross (Universal) He Walked by Night (Paramount) House of Strangers (Fox) Manhandled (Paramount) The Reckless Moment (Columbia) ...

Re: She who knows not fashion

A discussion of women's fashion reminds me of a book I had read about many decades ago. I though the book was called Who Built the Jails, but I can't find any book, related to fashion, with that title. Anyhow, the book was about how women are the ones that built their own misguided (at best), fashio...

Re: SPORTS

While I wasn't surprised the Cowboys melted down, I am surprised the Philly Eagles just gave up. Hurts may have been more injured than the team let on, but that doesn't explain the defense or the lack of any running game. It will be interesting to see if there is a coaching change. Eagles' ownership...
