Re: October Schedule 2014
Ooh, Loved the discussion of character actors who looked old from birth.... Moira, FANTASTIC photos. I've seen some of those at my secret photo source, but not all of them! I have a few other shockers I've collected over time if anyone wants to see them... some of those old coots were gorgeous! Youn...

Re: Your favorite character actors
That is the most wonderful post, norfious! I love Arnold Stang and I'd never heard that quote by him before. Superb! I'm glad you shared your personal feelings of empathy. That is really the best part of all. Was PEOPLE magazine around in 1954? I don't think so, but look what I found.... http://i312...

Re: October Schedule 2014
I am guessing that there was a rights issue with the Van Beuren shorts that prevented TCM from showing them. It's a disappointment.

Re: October Schedule 2014
I love this post, Maven! I enjoy your groupings and your ideas. I believe that a good screwball should leave as many questions at the end as it solves during it's short run time. Will any of the couples of screwball really be happy together? Hmmmm. Or is happiness overrated? Is marriage (or even jus...

It's a wonderful piece, Fernando! You've made me want to watch Miss Del Rio with new eyes. I think a little trip to the golden age of Mexican cinema is called for.

Re: CANDIDS II
Wow, what great company Miss Lombard keeps on her birthday! I'd love to see a day of either Janet Gaynor or Jerome Cowan's films.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
That would be a fascinating topic for discussion in a thread, Chris... drinking in the movies is quite often a liberating experience. Well, before The Lost Weekend and the kitchen sink films of the fifties. No wait, that time frame goes out the window... just thought of A Star is Born and What Price...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Chris, it sounds like one of those nice movies to cuddle under a blanket and watch on a rainy day... not too taxing, but pleasant. Am I the only person who actually likes Fernand Gravet (I heard someone pronounce it Gravy once and I always think of him that way now)? I find him very interesting, not...

Re: October Schedule 2014
Just putting a word in about Twentieth Century . I find it hilarious. I think what I like about it is that Lily and O.J. ( appropriate name, eh?) pretty much deserve one another. Lily is as big a ham as Oscar... she even admits it at one point, that the only thing she cares about is acting. I certai...

Re: October Schedule 2014
Thanks, ChiO, for the info on William Conrad. I'm shocked that he never directed any episodes of his TV shows....especially considering how well Brainstorm turned out. I tried to watch Peeping Tom again today, but I was suffering through a terrible migraine. How vivid the movie is! I actually had to...

Re: October Schedule 2014
Ditto the good impressions of -30- . I enjoyed it far more than I was expecting, and I think perhaps it would be a cool idea to have a William Conrad day sometime, including Brainstorm , which he directed (thanks for the tip, ChiO!). I have no idea if he directed anything else besides Cannon episode...
