Re: John Wayne, Lest We Forget
I don't have a problem with Ben Affleck. It's all the comic fanboys (and girls), it seems. I like Affleck. People get so worked up about their favorite characters when a film version is made of a book or a comic. I guess my point with Wayne is that, even though he was a newcomer in a lead role, who'...

Re: John Wayne, Lest We Forget
What's interesting to me is the touting of Wayne as a newcomer. The Big Trail may have been his first starring role, but it wasn't his first film. The letter from "An Observer" made me think of the recent flap over Ben Affleck being cast as Batman. People are always so quick to judge witho...

Re: The September 2013 TCM Schedule
Fred Astaire, YAY! It doesn't matter that I own several of his films on dvd, I will ALWAYS stop to watch Astaire on TCM. Death of a Scoundrel--I missed that one the last time it came around. I love George Sanders' purring deadly voice. Looking forward to more Kim Novak tonight. Bell, Book and Candle...

It's free. They play commercials every so often, like Pandora. You can pay for the no commercial service, but I always just listen for free.

Yes, it's annoying when Pandora plays something that seems random! I listen to Spotify more, now. I still like Pandora, though.
Wendy--are you on Spotify? I'll look for you.

Re: The September 2013 TCM Schedule
Sandy, I had the same feeling watching the Kim Novak interview. It's really something to see a film that you think you know, but see it with different "eyes." Kind of makes it a new movie almost. She was very emotional. Where do you teach acting/youth theater? BTW, Maven--I saw you in the...

Re: The Story of Film series coming in September
I really like how he describes the history of the vocabulary of film, how one setup built on another - for instance, the closeup and the reverse angle shot. He beautifully described how D.W. Griffith added 'the rustle of the leaves in the wind' to filmmaking, and in the same section deplored his ch...

Re: ASK ALEXA!
Hi Alexa,
Since TCM has been able to show more Fox films lately, I wondered if there were any plans to show Forever Amber starring Linda Darnell? I loved the book and have only seen the film once, a long time ago.

Re: The Domestic CAT: Feline at its finest!
I definitely can read his little cat mind sometimes! My husband scoffs, but I'm always right when I see that our cat is about to chomp his fangs into one of us. (He doesn't bite hard, but his little teeth ARE sharp.)

Re: The Domestic CAT: Feline at its finest!
I laughed my head off at the "bad" cats video. I've never seen some of those before, and I love LOL cats. We are obsessed with our cat--he is an endless source of entertainment for us. We have several phrases for his various looks and moods. I think my favorite is when he really wants me t...

Happy New Year to you and yours, Uncle Stevie! And to all who are celebrating!
Yum, matzoh ball soup. I almost bought some today because I was craving it. I should've!

Re: What are you listening to?
I always listen to music when I'm on the computer. Sometimes I listen to music on Spotify, which I love, because they have so much on there. It's great for checking out new music and also for finding artists that are just new to ME. I have some great playlists that I've made on there: Tiki Lounge--E...

MASHA--my husband just made me watch that video the other day. It is bizarre! Yet fun. Do you think they were being tongue-in-cheek or are they seriously pretentious? Hard to say.

Re: WELCOME TO THE SILVER SCREEN OASIS, ALEXA FOREMAN!
I am so sorry that I missed this! I read through the entire thread yesterday. So sad that we still don't know who the lady in blue is from Meet Me in St. Louis... Ms. Foreman, THANK YOU for sharing your time and knowledge here with us! And thanks for everything you do at TCM, my favorite channel of ...
