Re: The Mockery In July on TCM

It's nice that this film is premiering, but I was not impressed by it when I saw it at Cinevent a couple of years ago.

William Powell has a supporting role in Beau Geste (1926), which is in circulation - I have a Japanese laserdisc of it, and in fact I was watching it today, having just burned a new DVD-R of it.

I love The Road Home and To Live as well, excellent films.

Seven Samurai is one of the ten, if not five, best films ever made. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

That's all probably true, but Clara is so completely delectable in It - I don't know that she ever looked quite this good again.

I am astounded that any Clara Bow film could bear the status 'preservation pending' - seems like it would have been on a fast track long ago.

Ernst Lubitsch was one person who implored Paramount to give Clara a choice role in a more prestigious film.

The shot where Villon has been told he must leave Paris and is removing his clown makeup is riveting - Barrymore was a superlative actor.

Yes, and it was Clara's last film by her own choice.

I wish somebody would do a first-class restoration of this film - the excerpts of it in Cinema Europe are stunning.

PETER PAN was amazing. A beautiful print from KINO and solid score by Philip Carli. I kept wonder if Mary Pickford had ever considered the role... anyone know? Mary Pickford would have had to deal with James Barrie himself to produce a film of Peter Pan - I know that Barrie was the one who chose Be...

if Billie Burke hadn't been available Norma Shearer could have played Glinda in The Wizard of Oz. Ha, yes I definitely can see her in the part! Maybe they asked her and she turned it down. And I can see the Queen of MGM having a stroke if anyone would have suggested she play a small part in any mov...

I can't find William Haines as anything but annoying, even in Show People.

The Unholy Three, I think, is the best Chaney/Browning film.

Yes, I do believe The Covered Wagon was the first epic western, and it led the way for The Iron Horse and The Winning of Barbara Worth. Guess I could also toss in Tumbleweeds, since those four cover the different stages of westward expansion in the US.
