Re: Bad Movies You Love

"Luke" was the movie that made me a Newman fan. In fact, as a teen, it was my favorite movie!

Re: Myrna Loy

She had a great personality. Love that voice! When paired with some of the super leading man, it's often her who charms me. Not Grant, Powell or March.

Re: George Raft

I'm not familiar with SOULS AT SEA. I'd love to see it. I appreciate Hathaway's work. I recently gave away my copy of George Raft in THE GLASS KEY. It was kindly delivered to me by someone on this board. I watched it twice. Passing it on felt right!

Newman was at his youthful best in The Hustler

His finest hour. And one of the best ensembles I've seen.

I didn't know "I Will Always Love You" was in the movie. I would be very surprised if it's from the play.

Re: I can't believe I watched the whole thing!

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is funnier; better in every way. But "Blazing" is OK. More than OK. It's clever. The problem, as you have noted, is that we've heard so much for so long. It's a movie you almost know without even seeing it. Based on reports from friends of mine, the greatest things in th...

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

I can't imagine my Saturday afternoons without visiting with their various screen characters at our local cinema We had the same childhood, Western Guy! My first viewings of CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and HORROR OF DRACULA were as a glorious double feature. These gentlemen were to our generation what Bo...

Re: Bad Movies You Love

I like young Paul Newman. He's wicked, rebellious; pretty much Brando light. But more charming than the real thing! As for snakes in The Everglades, I guess it's true that enough people have released their pet pythons into the wild that now there are jungle snakes in North America! I didn't want to ...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

I once witnessed a bicycle accident. The injured rider didn't care all that much about being treated. He just wanted a cigarette! When I remarked on that, somebody said, "Clearly, you're not a smoker. That's the FIRST thing you do!"

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

I wish that Svengoolie would try to get copies of interesting low budget movies

I used to say this about Elvira's program. Her humorous interludes were fun, But she showed the WORST horror movies ever made!

Re: New York Times Magazine Piece on TCM

we've been heading down that path you mentioned for the last 15 to 20 years now

Mrs L, in a sense, it's been since STAR WARS. But you're right. The trend has been amplified in the last two decades.

Re: Biopics

Some I recall as being pretty good is "The Life of Emile Zola" You're right, Movieman! I watched the video last night. I just read a book about the Dreyfuss case, and found comparing the two stories fascinating. This movie is quite well filmed. Very visual for a story about a man of words...

Re: Series Finales

The St. Elsewhere finale was a disaster, in my opinion. Apparently the entire show had been in the imagination of an autistic boy You're serious, King Rat? This is not April Fools Day? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! People made fun of DALLAS for attributing one season to a dream. The ent...
