When you're talking SiFi, there are a limited number of things I like. Couple of reasons for this: 1.Many times plots are not original or new--they are just recycled. 2.Because of special effects and the like, sometimes the acting is not what it could or should be. There are so many films that want ...

jdb1, I've read "Rebecca". Good book. Haven't read the book that GWTW was based on (don't remember the name, but it wasn't the same title was it?). I have read "The Godfather" and although it was a simplistic read, I don't feel that the movie--which I did like and enjoy--captured...

I think both posters are making valid points. On one hand, this is the very person who drove most (if not all of the people here) a bit crazy now and then and inspired the creation of this forum. It would be silly not to acknowlege that and the problems and frustrations that could not be vented at t...

It really depends on the depth and scope of the book and the directors treatment of the story. I have seen some incredibly lauded films (namely "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975)) that I personally thought were awful compared to the novel. However, there are some films like "Kin...

Thanks for explaining that and the terms as well. I barely know how to use a computer much less understand the lingo.

It's kind of like driving in a big city I've never been to: I know how to basically get to the destination I'm headed, but if I make a wrong turn, I can get lost quite easily.

Thieves is a great film. I'll never forget when I found out the old man's legs were gone.

It's one of those films that I feel I need to see about 5 more times before I can open my yap and discuss it though.

That was a great review indeed.

I am not a fan of that film (because I don't like Sterling Hayden's acting in it), but you made me want to see it again. Well done! 8)

I just finished "American Film Criticism" by Stanley Kauffman. He does a series of essays in the back on various films that are great. His insights on "Persona" (1966) are better than most full volume books I've read on that film. He also did a great essay on "Way Down East&...

I also liked them in "The Verdict" (1946) a period peice noir/mystery. My personal favorite of their work together is "Three Strangers" (1946).

Re: Affair in Trinidad

I thought that I'd mention that one thing that's come across to me in the Rita Hayworth films that have been shown so far on TCM this month is the vulnerability that the "love goddess" so often projected on screen. In The Lady in Question this lost quality manifested itself throughout the ...
