Re: What are you reading?
I have a feeling it was Rock, I had to cast that out of my mind as it wasn't him in my mind, it was Bill Holden. I'm getting to the end of Anna, it's quite heartbreaking, she's breaking down and becoming catty with dear Kitty (my favourite although I have a soft spot for Dolly too) but it's so belie...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
It's sounds a fun film, I've never watched it but always fancied it because of the title. I've whetted everyone's appetite for Inferno and Rhonda Fleming and I'm not surprised. It must have looked wonderful in technicolour on the big screen. My appetite has been whetted for Dana Andrews by reading h...

Re: The whiny thread
Yes, yes and yes. I'm very scared too, I read reviews of movies and think have I watched that and having no idea. I just thought it was me.

Wings
City Lights
The Crowd
Steamboat Bill jnr
Pandora's Box
These are off the top of my head and always subject to change but these are all quite dynamic in their own way.

Re: Murray wins Wimbledon after 77-yr wait
What a wonderful match is was Stuart, I think our neighbours could hear our cheers quite a way down the road, it being very nice weather, which made his win even more magical. I knew he'd do it this year, I couldn't be shaken from my insistence and Chris thought I'd jinx the poor guy but I didn't. E...

Re: What are you reading?
Maybe this is the reason it is such a classic? That you come back and see it so differently as a mature person? I felt the same way when I re-read Gatsby a few years back - I read it every so often, but in the last few years I've had less patience with Gatsby and Nick and Daisy. Rather than thinkin...

Re: George Raft
It gave me a kick to look at his films again and discovered that he was very deserving of his success (aren't they all, I should learn after all this time). He made some real gems. My condition (CFS also called ME)isn't curable, as in they don't know how to cure it but people do get better, not all ...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I've never seen America, Griffiths later work seems mired in controversy but as has been proven with countless others just because movie writers write them off it doesn't mean that the work outside of their greatest works don't have merits. I rewatched Heroes For Sale , Richard Barthelmess as a war ...

Re: What are you reading?
I got an ipod for the same reason I got a kindle, to make room, CDs were fine for me, yet once I had one I haven't looked back. I'm still way behind times with my phone and my ipod is quite dinky although give it a couple of years and the kids will think that old too. It's really made a difference, ...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I watched Inferno yesterday with Robert Ryan and Rhonda Fleming, Ryan looked quite grizzled, even before he began his adventure in the desert and I had the feeling if anyone could survive this he could. How cold was Rhonda? I expected her to do the dirty on her new guy as well, a good example of a m...

Re: George Raft
Thanks guys, I've struggled along for nearly 3 years now and this darn thing morphs and changes all the time. Many people have it worse, the word blindness is particularly bad on the computer, probably the back lighting, book reading is a bit better, yet I can knit and crochet, what's that all about...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I like Lew Ayres, he's a complete contrast to Cagney but I've never seen him as a bad guy and so enmeshed for me as Paul in All Quiet on the Western Front. For me Doorway to Hell was a look at things to come, both for Cagney and gangster pictures in general.
