Re: 'Round the World Weather Report
Need some help. A few minutes ago, the sky got somewhat dark. Then there was a strange rumbling. Then it sounded as if the roof was being pelted. I just stepped outside. There are these odd, translucent globules falling from the sky. They seem to be -- how best to describe it? -- wet. Is anyone fam...

Re: YOU Tube'n
I'm curious: Does anyone know how to take a screencapture from a YouTube video? Do you just use the same procedure as taking a screencapture of your computer's entire screen or is there some special software that does it for you (so you don't have to edit and crop the picture)? I use Capture Me. ht...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
I watched Lucio Fulci's Gates of Hell Trilogy , and all three movies are equally fascinating as they are frustrating. All three, more-or-less, deal with the prospect of one (or more) of the Gates of Hell opening, with the first, City of the Living Dead locating that door in New England's Dunwich (as...

The Complete Inner Sanctum Mystery Series is available on a 2-disc DVD set at a bargain price of $7.87 at Amazon. I highly recommend it. http://www.amazon.com/Inner-Sanctum-Mysteries-Collection-Confession/dp/B000FWHW90/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1342097894&sr=1-1&keywords=inn...

Re: Pre-code clips
This project started when I finally recorded the Barthelmess film Central Airport from the DVR. I was very conscious of the sequence where he and his girl have a conversation through a closed door. On one side, Barthelmess is fully dressed, while on the other, Sally Eilers just happens to be changin...

Pre-code clips
I've been watching some pre-codes and it's interesting to see that even in the most mundane films, the women, often for no apparent reason, like to undress. Fooling around in iMovie, I put together a couple of clips: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3-XCvlTkK4&feature=endscreen&NR=1[...

CCF: Mr. Arc's list is a great place to start for further classic horror viewing. You mentioned that you like the style of the Universal horror films, and I completely agree. Universal was the best studio for classic horror. But the other studios have some films that are certainly worth checking out...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...
While I was there (at youtube), I had to watch the "This is Your Life" segment with Boris Karloff. What a sweet man, what an accomplished human being! While the rigors of stardom seems to have left so many people in shreds, he emerges with his humanity intact...and then some. There's almo...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
Okay MichiganJ, respect your opinion but we'll have to agree to disagree on your last point. My point was, that even in the beginning, Hollywood rarely awarded actors for performances in horror roles. March won best actor for Dr. Jeckyll , but after that, I can't recall anyone being nominated for a...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
Re: The Raven - Greg Mank humorously and indeed accurately refers to Karloff's makeup in this film as resembling a pumpkin (left out in the sun too long). I agree The Raven is a pretty weak film (reminds me of a condensed serial), especially when compared to other Karloff/Lugosi pairings. However, ...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...
Apparently there was that talk about a goofy "monster mash" to be produced by Universal called, I believe, The Devil's Brood , which was announced in the trades and was to feature virtually all of the monsters on the Universal lot, including The Mad Ghoul. Can't recall if Dracula's Daught...

I saw White Oak last year at Cinesation and the film is great fun, particularly the jail-breaking dog! The 35mm print, from the Library of Congress, was gorgeous, particularly in showing off Hart's dyed, jet-black hair.

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?
Technically they both first appeared in The Gift of Gab (1934), but in cameos (and not together). They also are paired in The Invisible Ray (1936). You'll Find Out , which also features Peter Lorre, is a haunted house, musical, comedy that isn't bad as long as you don't go in expecting a Karloff/Lug...
