Impact

Post by ken123 »

Is a a somewhat noirish film starring Brian Donlevy and Ella Raines, with Helen Walker as a murderous wife. Arthur Lubin of " Francis, the Talking Mule ". and " Mr. Ed " fame directs It is OK, but under Siodmak, Lang, or Dassin it could have been near great. Charles Coburn and Anna may Wong also appear.

Nice to see Brian Donlevy in a sympathetic role and to see Helen Walker as the femme fatale, so unlike her loving wife portrayal in CALL NORTHSIDE 777. Ella Raines always good. Not so sure about Charles Coburn's Irish accent!

I like this mature crime drama. The cast is fine. The story is fascinating. The film tends to be lumped into the B category; OK by me, as I see that as a compliment! But it's not a silly throwaway of a mystery. It's serious and quite well done.
