I was the "someone" who wrote about the buttons. Men's trousers, at least in formal wear, didn't use zippers way back then, but rather, buttons, which is what I always took Lombard's line-reading to mean. I guess I read something that wasn't there.
Apologies.

Innuendo and double entendres (?) are fun because there are different ways to take them.

I love how it's going back and forth - at least if mine loses, I'll know it was a good race.

And if mine loses - you'd better watch out!

It's changed again. Cary and his negligee can't possibly lose, can he?

It's fitting that my favorite screwball actor, Cary Grant should be in the final with my favorite screwball actress Carole Lombard.

I've recused myself from voting, because I was too lazy to submit nominations. But IMO Bringing Up Baby defines screwball comedy.

On the other hand I always watch MMG to hear William Powell say very seriously, "The only difference between a derelict and a man is a job," and something like, "It's amazing how fast you can go downhill when you start feeling sorry for yourself." Both of those lines have been pretty important for me to hear at one time or another...and not for laughs either! I could do without the histrionics in the rest of the film.

Just because you didn't vote in the primary doesn't mean you can't vote in the general election (provided, ofcourse, you would vote for Bringing Up Baby :D )
