Last time this was on, I only caught about the last quarter of it, but this time I watched it from start to finish.
What a good movie this is. I was sorry it didn't go on. I wanted to know if the guys made it back. I never cared for Robert Newton, and I still don't but he did a good job in this one. I barely recognized Celia Johnson as the same lovely lady she was in Brief Encounter. She looked so down trodden in this.
Some movies you can walk into halfway through and catch up, but in this case, I really didn't know what was going on the last time. Now I know why the estrangement of the daughter, and about the son - I didn't even know he existed last time.
My only complaint was understanding them at times. I know it's a little more refined than us, but sometimes it sounds like a downright foreign language. Does anyone know if there is a follow up book? I haven't looked it up on imdB so I don't know what it was based on, or if it was written for the screen.
