All Right!! Olive Films will now have a chance to distribute some very rare films.

I am especially glad to see James Cagney's picaresque production Johnny Come Lately (1943) among the titles as well as the ahead-of-its-time racially aware war film, Home of the Brave (1949-Mark Robson). Apparently, most of Olive Films are released without any extra features, but since several of these movies have almost never been issued on Region 1 DVDs, it is still great news.

That's a nice list. Personally I would love to see The Lost Moment finally released on DVD! :)

Thanks for the list, Lynn. Seeing THE QUITE MAN there only gets my hopes up that we'll see a restoration. I've heard rumors, and maybe you know if it's fact, that there has already been a restoration done and for whatever reason Paramount has been sitting on it. I assumed that, if true, the studio was waiting to do a Blu-ray release. I have to admit that I don't really know much about Olive Films, but they certainly seem to be charging right in to acquire titles. More power to them.

Mark,

Like you, I've heard the talk of a restoration of The Quiet Man but so far, no DVD or Blu of it has been released. I hope this is a good sign that a Blu is coming sooner rather than later.

I saw a good print of the film a few years ago and the color was quite good though not the eye popper it should have been. A good restoration on Blu should look jaw dropping good.

Here's hoping!

The version I saw at the AFI theater near DC was a UCLA print. It wasn't that bright either but the DVD I have is a bit too bright for my tastes. I think I like my old VHS print better.

I use to know a film collector that had an absolutely stunning 16mm print of THE QUIET MAN. Unfortunately, he passed away some years back and his extensive collection went in many different directions. I'm not sure where that one ended up. Boy, would I love to have been able to grab that one.
