Choose the Best Silent: A Dead Heat?

Postby cinemalover » Sat Jul 26, 2008 4:43 am

In this thread you must choose between Sunrise or The Crowd.

The voting runs through Wednesday, July 30th at 11:59pm (Pacific).

This is it, you're chance to decide SSO's bestavorite non-comedy silent for 2008. Thank you to all who participated in the process and I hope you all enjoyed the competition. I'll gone on vacation for most of the next two weeks so you'll just have to settle it without me.

Have fun!
Chris

The final is no big surprise for me, they are two of my favorite but it has to be The Crowd for me too.

must go for SUNRISE for that tracking shot through the swamp weeds under full moon and for the city montage

I love both of these films, but as a Murnau devotee, I must go with Sunrise, one of the most beautiful films ever made.

I want to say this is a tough vote, as I am a big fan of Murnau, and of this film. But this merely proves how much I absolutely love The Crowd. Without any hesitation I would go with The Crowd, it's an absolute gem.

It was a super tough, difficult choice for me, since I've been a fan of "Sunrise" for years and when I got the DVD it was like the Holy Grial. I saw "The Crowd" for the first time only last year, but I have to admit that on an emotional level it made a bigger impact on me. It's one of the most touching films I've ever seen; and Eleanor Boardman and James Murray are perfect.

Went with "The Crowd." I just don't think "Sunrise" was Murnau's best film. It was unquestionably great, but "The Crowd" was an amazing film on all levels.

Wow, a tie thus far! Not a surprise that they would be close, both are great films. But I went with "The Crowd" too as it effects me more.

I think it's fitting these two brilliant films are tied at the top.

Maybe we should leave it that way. :D

Well, I go away for awhile and you guys can't even come up with a winner? Well, that's okay. The noir finals also ended in a tie.

Thank you to everyone for participating.
