None but the Lonely Heart (1944)

Shows tomorrow. One of Cary Grants best roles and proof that he could do a lot more than just comedy. Any other fans?

I like this one, too. Plus Ethel Barrymore is wonderful. This one makes me cry...

I've always heard it's his best work. I believe it was his favorite. I've never had the opportunity to see it, and it's been high on my list for 25 years. I was disappointed -- when perusing the December schedule -- to see so many Cary Grant movies, yet the noticable absence of this one. Little did I know it would be on tomorrow...

Good evening all,

I think it's easily one of his best roles. Of all his films that I've had occasion to see, this one was more than deserving of an Oscar nomination. I don't know whether he received one for this role or not, but if so, it must have been a remarkably good performance that took the award away from him. It's a shame he didn't play more dramatic parts. After seeing this movie, I'd be hard pressed to find a reason why he wouldn't be offered them. I've always heard that comedies don't bring home the Oscars. How true that is I couldn't say, and it seems to me at least that an actor's career can be measured by the number of Academy Awards he's (she's) either nominated for or has won. If memory serves, Cary Grant's only Oscar was an honorary one awarded him for his entire body of work. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. In Mr Grant's case, that hardly seems adequate or fair. Is there anyone that doesn't like him in at least one of his roles? I don't think I've ever heard anyone say so. He was so good, so often, that it's hard to remember all the terrific performances he gave.

As always,

Hollis
