Swithin, I read the novel in French when in college (studying French) and was stunned when The Big Misunderstanding took place. One of the most shocking occurrences ever, in film, stage, or book. The author (you may know) was Elizabeth Goudge, who is not considered, I believe, as a literary author. I like the movie as well.
