Two Titles:
1. A Big Hand For The Little Lady.Poker game scam cons the audience as well as the marks, and provides employment for a raftload
of top-notch supporting players.

2. The Hallelujah Trail. Thursty miners, Indians Cavalry and the
Temperance League in conflict over a wagon train load of booze. Outstanding: Donald Pleasence as "Oracle Jones"; Robert J. Wilke as
"Chief Five Barrels". Worthy of note: great theam song.

Good choices; one question: Everybody names 'Destry Rides Again'.
Does anybody,ANYBODY like 1954's 'Destry'( Audie Murphy, Mari Blanchard)?

Glad to have you here, Cmvgor. I hope that you'll have time to check out the many pages of our little site. The earlier thread within the Western section devoted to comedic Westerns is here. I find that using the Search feature found above this page between FAQ and Memberlist helps me figure out if a relevant topic that I'm interested in has already been posted. You are most welcome to peruse any topic and I hope that you'll be posting again soon.

Btw, I think my favorite all time Comedy Western would have to be Cat Ballou (1965)--not because it's a masterpiece, (though it's entertaining enough, in a way), but because it's one of the first movies that I remember seeing in a theatre!

Don't forget "The Scalphunters," with Burt Lancaster, Ossie Davis and Shelley Winters from around 1968. Sydney Pollack directed, and I always thought it was quite funny.

I went to see Robert Aldrich's 4 FOR TEXAS at the local nabe when I was about 15 and it really cracked me up. Ratpackers Frankie and Dino mix it up with Ursula Andress and Anita Ekberg (not to mention the likes of Charles Bronson and Victor Buono as well as Aldrich veterans Wesley Addy and Jack Elam). I've seen it a few times since and it's still pretty durn funny!

A bit of memory trivia: When 4 FOR TEXAS was still in first-run, studio execs were taking legal action in Europe. Ads and posters Over There were giving major-type billing to Charles Bronson, who was a much bigger draw in their cinemas than the actual stars.

cmvgor: That's really funny! I have to assume it was on the strength of THE GREAT ESCAPE the year before which, as I understand it, was a huge sensation in Europe. Leave it to Bronson to upstage the Ratpack!

I would nominate Destry Rides Again, The Paleface and Along Came Jones but I just can't leave out The Sheepman, too, which gets funnier to me each time I see it.
