Isn't Romantic Comedy redundant?

Happy Birthday Charlie Chaplin!

On April 16, 1889 the world received one of the most important individuals of the silent screen era, not to mention a doggone funny guy. Charles Chaplin was by all accounts a genius of multiple talents (acting, writing, directing, scoring, producing), and certainly cinema is the richer for his being among us.

TCM is running a block of his films today, so don't miss them if you've not seen them!

I think I'll even change my avatar for the day in his honor...and post one of my Chaplin wallpapers over in Classic Film Art for others to enjoy! :)

I'm currently reading a interesting book, "The Essential Chaplin" edited by Richard Schickel. It is a collection of essays and reviews about Chaplin. There is a long excerpt from Alastair Cooke's book "Fame" about Cooke's time with Chaplin in the 1930s. Also, there are a number reviews of Chaplin's films from the time they were made. It has given me a new perspective on how Chaplin was regarded.
