Absent and forgotten series characters

Post by stuart.uk »

In the final season of The High Chapperal there is not even a mention of Mark Slade's Blue Boy, after the actor left the show. This is noticeable in 2 epiosodes. In the flashback episode The Badge, where John and Buck are reunited after the Civil War, they talk about their late mother, but there is no mention of John's first wife Anna Lee or Blue. Also at the reading of Don Sebastians will, even Buck gets a saddle, but nothing for Blue, who is the heir to his dad's cattle empire

After a while the character of Victoria Barcley's son Eugene is written out of the show, In a later episode after Victoria regains her lost memory by looking at photos of her children. There is no Eugene, but step-son Heath, by her husband's unfaithfulness, is there.

Adam Cartwright is mentioned for at least a season after Parnell Roberts left Bonanza, but he's soon forgotten. In a later episode Ben takes adopted son Jamie to a tree where he carved out the names of his older sons Hoss and Joe, but no Adam. In the first movie Bonanza The Next Generation, Joe missing in Cuba, is married to Amanda. She tells Hoss' son that his father was best man at her wedding. This is impossible because Joe married first wife Alice, after Hoss' death in Forever. The idea of BTNG was clearly scrapped and rewritten as Bonanza The Return with Joe and Amanda killed off and the creation of an adult daughter Serah to join brother Benji, who was in the original film. Again in the movies there is no mention of Mitch Vogel's Jamie or foreman Candy.

That's life on a TV show! Whatever happened to the first of MY THREE SONS? It would be hard for a soft-hearted sitcom to explain the disappearance of Tim Considine. Did BONANZA account for Adam's departure? Pernell Roberts may have been difficult to work with, but that doesn't explain Adam. I think one of THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW got a new husband! She woke up one season with Richard Deacon! But that was a casting change. That's a little different.

At least Col. Henry Blake spun into The Sea of Japan. Trapper John was discharged. In a war that lasted twelve years, there was plenty of time to write characters out of the story. Maybe HIGH CHAPPARAL was too busy trying to stay on the air!

Adam was on a ship we heard in one episode and in Paris in another.
