Wow! I could have sworn that was an early Joan Crawford.... Lupe usually looks so soft. I would never have known it was Lupe if you hadn't said so.

Is that Ruth Chatterton on the left? Or maybe Edna Best? Probably not Edna, since I don't know if she made any American movies this early.

Wendy, the caption under the original image stated it was Lupe Velez. This of course was years prior to her Mexican Spitfire films.

Mongo -

As soon as I read it was Lupe, I knew that was right. It just surprised me, and my comment was not in any way meant as a challenge - just an exclamation of shock that she looked so much like a 1920's Crawford. I never thought they looked similar before. I hope I didn't offend, I certainly didn't mean to.

Not at all, Wendy. Sometimes the info given with an image is not correct, as happened in the past. I always welcome all comments regarding the images. Thanks.

A few words about today's birthday boy, Robert Easton, who played country bumpkins in countless movies.
He is known as the "Henry Higgins of Hollywood". Is a master of dialects, and frequently coaches other actors.
He coached actor Forest Whitaker to an Oscar and Golden Globe with his Ugandan dialect as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland (2006).

Nice photo of John Dehner. He starred in so many movies and programs throughout the 40's, 50's, and 60's, I would hate to be the one to make a list of all his guest shots - it would be enormous. Being so used to seeing him in gritty farmer and immigrant make up and outfits, I was happily surprised to realize he was quite a nice looking man. He could and did play anything from kind and nice gentlemen, to dirty and vicious killers, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were not nights that you might turn on your favorite western, or detective show and see Mr. Dehner guest starring during the entire prime time viewing hours.

For his fine body of work, I just wanted to give him a little recognition and a thank you for a job well done.
.
Anne

I remember coming across the odd little factoid, back in the early 80's, that Howard Duff had grown up in Bremerton, Washington; later on, in about '88 or '89, I found myself living in Bremerton, and remembering that bit of minutia, made a point of working it into social conversations I'd have with various other residents of that often drab & jaded little Navy town.
Know what I discovered?
Nobody, evidently, had ever heard that piece of info before, nobody was particularly interested (beyond feigning mild acknowledgement), and about 80% of my listeners had never heard of Howard Duff (and all of them were over 30).
That's pretty sad! :|

Hi Klondike,

I remember Lana Turner telling several of us that she had gone back to Wallace, Idaho (her birthplace) at the invitation from that mining town and that 3/4 of the people there didn't know who she was....
That was in 1950 or the early fifties, and LT was then one of the biggest movie stars in the world!!

Some people are just not interested in anything past their town or block even...

Larry
