Re: PBS
Yes, I agree, the soldier's story didn't really fit well into the whole, but I thought maybe because he had previously worked for Foyle, he would be brought back later on. I don't know, maybe they are at a loss without Milner's character?
You described the relationship between Foyle and MI5 lady perfectly! I guess I really should find out her name.
Yes, I liked that dry line about needing a driver. Andrew watched with me, he's only seen one episode, and he stayed around to see this one. I'm happy we at last have something we can watch together besides Food Network shows.

Re: PBS
Can't wait to see next week's ep. Hilda and Foyle seem like an unbeatable team.
Watching the show always makes me want to copy Sam's wardrobe and hairstyles, even though she looks like she's about 5'11" and I'm about a foot shorter. They do everything, the sets, the cars, everything is correct for the time, but as a real person might have had, not movie star glamour. I appreciate that. It always makes me realize how much STUFF we have, food, things, possessions, whereas these folks were doing without for a lot of the time. Makes me want to pare down my life.

Re: PBS
I never thought of Sam as being more than about 5'3' or so.
After listening to her mention what they didn't have at the market is does make you stop and think how easy we have getting things.

I, too thoroughly enjoyed Foyle's War, episode 1. I've also liked the others that have been shown previously. I'm not crazy about British movie mysteries, but the writers for TV sure have the formula down pat. I'm not too crazy about Kenneth Brannaugh either, but I have enjoyed the Wallender series. I love how Inspector Lewis and his coroner got together in the last season. The fellow that plays Sherlock Holmes makes me feel nervous - that sound silly but he gets under my skin somehow, and I feel uncomfortable but I still watch.

Re: PBS
Did y'all know that "Andrew Foyle" can sing? I just discovered the actor who played Christopher Foyle's son Andrew (actor/singer Julian Ovenden) has quite an impressive voice:

Julian also is set to appear in the next installment of Downton Abbey.

Re: PBS
Isn't that often the case? Some can go years and then you hear them do something like this or a little knock off in a picture and it makes me wonder why I didn't know that.

Re: PBS
Julian Ovenden is more well known in the UK as a singer. Beautiful voice.
He's doing well in Downton .

I mentioned this on Page 4 of this thread but it was kind of in passing so I'm going to be more explicit this time. Those of you who are in the Chicago television area should check your TV guide (whether on your TV system, or weekly booklet), and find WYCC. It's channel 20 on my Uverse system. I spent a very pleasurable day yesterday watching the marathon of mystery movies they televised from noon until Wednesday morning. They played Hetty Wainthropp, a very early Morse and Lewis (it's funny seeing Lewis as the underling), a few Endeavors, and some Miss Fisher (which I have not yet seen), and also a Wallender and Wednesday more of the same. Believe me, if you love mysteries, try your best to find WYCC.

Anne,
I loved Mysteries and I will try to write to my Cable Company to add this channel - unfortunately I've checked my Cable Lineup from top to bottom and no WYCC listed anywhere. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: PBS
Downton Abbey: Season 4 starts Sunday on PBS in the U.S.!
Here in Rochester, someone with a lot of time on his hands built a Legos version of the show. Please click on the image for more about this PBS (and worldwide) event and this guy's imaginative hobby:

Erik:
Channel 20 is not a cable channel. It's included in the old time network schedule along with Channels 2, 5, 7, 9, and 11 here in Chicago area otherwise known as CBS, NBC, ABC, WGN and WTTW.

Re: PBS
WYCC (Channel 20) is one of the three PBS stations that the Chicago area receives. It is owned and operated by the Chicago City Colleges. The others are:
WTTW (Channel 11) - jokingly referred to as Window To Winnetka - is the biggie.
WYIN (Channel 56) is out of Gary, Indiana, but serves Chicago.
