John Payne, Lizabeth Scott and Dan Duryea fans -- Allan Dwan fans too -- rejoice! VCI has announced a "restored" version of Silver Lode for May 25.

For hardcore Allan Dwan fans, you might want to check out the new French box set of Dwan films.

The set includes Silver Lode, Slightly Scarlet, Tennessee's Partner, Passion, Cattle Queen from Montana, Escape from Burma and Pearl of the South Pacific. A little more about this set at http://www.theauteurs.com/notebook/posts/1531

Yes, but the rejoicing here is for John Alton! Especially the French set -- John Alton was the cinematographer for each of those films -- and, with the HUGE exception of SILVER LODE and SLIGHTLY SCARLET, the only reason I would sit through those movies again.

ChiO -- you are so right about John Alton and I am embarrassed that I didn't include him in my first post. Thanks for noticing that!

What about Tennessee's Partner? Glenn Kenny thinks highly of it in his review of the Dwan set.
