I just saw the Tim Burton "Alice in Wonderland" yesterday. I liked it, although my children liked it more. (I have never been a big "Alice" fan.)
Still, I appreciated the fact that this film told of Alice's second visit to Wonderland. Tweedledum and Tweedledee really impressed me. They were funny and slightly creepy.
Johnny Depp was terrific as the Mad Hatter. I would not have guessed he was American if this were the only film of his I've seen.
The real surprise was Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts. I've never really liked him, but he came across as a splendid villain in the Basil Rathbone style.
The climactic battle between the armies of the two queens was very well done. Tim Burton has never done something like that, and he succeeded with flying colors.
Has anyone else seen the new version, or are there older film or TV versions you'd like to comment on?
