Spoiler Alert

I find it interesting to compare the end of The Gentle Sex to another British war-time propaganda classic Millions Like Us. During MLU Patrica Roc is drafted into working in a factory making parts for aircraft. She meets, falls in love and marries RAF crewman Gordon Jackson. Not long afterwards he's killed and after she's given the news she's given the rest of the day off from the factory, along with pal Megs Jenkins, who gives her support. In TGS, Joyce Howard's Anne is in the womans ATS and eventully becomes an ambulance driver. Just before a call out, Anne gets news of her boyfriend's death. Despite her grief, she has no option but to carry on working.
