Anne and Sugarpuss, thanks for the great suggestions. I'm looking forward to watching anyone of them, to renew my oppinion on Day. I know she is a good actress, because so many people would not love her if she was not.

Yes, I agree with sugarpuss. The Thrill of It All and Move Over, Darling are both enjoyable.

Polly Bergen is in Move Over, Darling, and she's a total hoot in this one. If you are a Bergen fan, this is a must for her lighter touch. Thelma plays her no-nonsense advice-dispensing self in one of her later roles, and I've never seen James Garner so sexually flustrated!

Edward Andrews, a great character actor, was also funny as the past-his-prime pa in The Thrill of It All.

Kyle, those pictures of Barbara are fantastic--especially the last one! But then she was gorgeous throughout her entire life.

I actually debated with my avatar. Solo Barbara as Sugarpuss from 'Ball of Fire'? Miriam Deering from 'Charlotte'? But when I saw the picture of Joseph Cotten AND Barbara together? Paydirt! The amount of time I spent debating this is way too embarrassing to even admit in public.

I've seen 3 Essentials with Robert and Carrie. They were both enthusiastic about "Breakfast At Tiffany's" being an essential and shared many reasons why they loved the movie...and a few things that annoyed them.
With "Hud" and "Fear Strikes Out-"they were much less enthusiastic and seemed to be grasping for reasons to justify these films being essential.
I've seen "That Touch Of Mink" many times over the years and always enjoy Doris and Cary. (Although, I prefer Doris and Rock...especially in "Pillow Talk.")
If I were to pick an essential with Doris Day, I'd pick "Storm Warning."
A noir-ish melodrama with Doris and Ginger Rogers as sisters...in a small town "ruled" by "The Klan." A movie way ahead of it's time. Also with Ronald Reagan and Steve Cochran (as a major sleaze.) This movie, for me, is like "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers" meets "A Streetcar Named Desire."

In Doris' bio, written with A.E. Hotchner, she discusses how her father had been a rascist in her formative years with him, and how he had been so intolerant of anyone whose race had been different from his own.

When Doris returned triumphantly to Cincinnati for a premiere, she recalls how her father turned up after a very long absence, invited her, Marty Melcher, and others to his German bar in a predominantly black neighborhood. Then Doris describes how wonderful his transformation was and how beloved he seemed to be by his patrons.

She stated how touched and proud she was of the change that occurred, and later how he had married the black woman employed at his establishment.

Doris also states that Storm Warning was way ahead of it's time.

Pillow Talk is one of my all time faves, but Love Me Or Leave Me is one with Doris in her dramatic peaks.

Robert and Carrie are cute, but I wish they would dig deeper in the details department.
