White Nights shows that sometimes the best company is a dog. Yes, it can be a distant film, but the striking visuals and Mastroianni's touching performance make it a classic of Italian film.

I didn't read all that above your post. Did someone say it wasn't, or list something else as his first?
I've seen 10 of his movies, and ranked them thusly:
4 stars
La Terra Trema (1948)
Rocco and His Brothers (1960)
3 1/2 stars
Ossessione (1943)
White Nights (1957)
The Damned (1969)
Senso (1954)
The Leopard (1963)
3 stars
Boccaccio '70 (1962)
2 1/2 stars
The Witches (1967)
Death in Venice (1971)

The OP of this thread mentions a "first film" in the 2nd paragraph of his first post, a post which is also old. I didn't read too much after that.
