LARCENY, INC is hilarious. Almost undoubtedly the best "crime comedy" I've seen. The plot is so clever Woody Allen stole it for his SMALL TIME CROOKS!

I love the running gag on how if they are not selling stuff at $9.75 they are giving it away. Then throwing all those cases in the basement to cover up the whole was a good turn in directing by just imagining what the pile must look like - until you see it.

For some time, I assumed the story was by Damon Runyon. You can see why I made that mistake! I believe the credit belongs to another humorist.

If I recall it was based on a play by S.J. Perelman.

I love both of them! Perelman definitely got a Runyon-esque vibe going here.
