Yes, Danny and Sylvia lived apart for awhile, then got back together, but they never had what would be considered a "normal" relationship.

I'm confused by the 1941 article that describes Danny as having blonde hair, but I thought he was a natural redhead, and that it was dyed blonde for his first starring role in 1944 (at the behest of Goldwyn) to make him look less "ethnic".

Thanks, SueSue -- I was exhausted just reading Danny's schedule over the years -- it seemed he never stopped working in one form or another, and was always on the go, all around the world. Reading between the lines, it didn't seem that his immense success sat lightly on his shoulders, and he must have been subjected to a lot of emotional and physical stress, which probably exacerbated his natural tendency toward depression.

Well, he was certainly "manic" in some of his performances, and someone that highly charged has to be able to properly recharge. With that schedule, it seemed that he was constantly hurtling through time and space.

I knew that he and Sylvia had an unusual relationship, and I wonder if Dena Kaye felt slighted by all her father's attention to the children of the world.

I imagine so, Sue Sue. It's a good point, I bet she did sometimes, though I guess one has to put one's childhood into perspective, no matter who your parents are.

I thought Danny was a redhead too, but then when you see him later on in life, on talk shows and such, he looks sort of blond.

Yes, and when he conducted the Philharmonic, it was blonde.
