Re: 'Round the World Weather Report
After all is said and done this storm was a greater power problem than Irene. No floods, like Irene, but many more dark homes. Well over a million lost power in the Tri State area. Schools were closed for two day and Halloween got cancelled until Friday. My family did well except for one Son in Fair...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report
In Bloomfield, New Jersey near New York City we had an unexpected snow storm of major proportions. We had 5" of snow but others had up to 12". Trees still have leaves on them and both trees and large branches were falling everywhere. Our electric company has over 250,000 homes without powe...

"The Talk" TV show
Why did Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Pete get fired from the Talk show? I thought they were the show and they got fired with no explanation. Does anyone know why?

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I watched "The Girl Next Door" (1953) starring June Haver and Dan Dailey is a delightful light musical featuring the acrobatics of June Haver. She is a very petite girl and dances have her thrown around like a bunny rabbit. She is always in the air and performs some uplifting dance sequenc...

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Saw "The Gay Divorce'" tonight for about the 4th time. Fred and Ginger really do it up right. Last week I watched one of my favorites - "You were never lovlier" with Fred and Rita. This was a great romantic movie.

The Modern Musical
New musicals are popping up with Rock and Pop Genres many of which I do not like. But there is one that I singled out and even bought it to watch over and over again. Burlesque (2010) stars Cher and Christina Aguilera. I am personally taken by this movie and love to hear the numbers over and over ag...

I think Mae was writing a "bribe" check to quiet the conductor from telling who was on the train with her.

Re: Sailor walks into a bar . . .
A guy walked into the local Welfare Office to pick up his check. He marched straight up to the counter and said, "Hi. You know, I just HATE drawing welfare. I'd really rather have a job." The social worker behind the counter said, "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening f...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report
My friends lost the use of their house for three months. The foundation must be rebuilt and strengthened. All furniture on the first floor and basement must be replaced. Insurance will pay for some of it. They bounced from rental to relative's for living but with two children and two dogs it was imp...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report
When I am in dire need of drink I will open even a warm bottle of water. Moisture is more important to me than cool pleasure. I have a friend in Denville, New Jersey who lost their house when Irene filled the basement and then half filled the first floor of living with river water. Furnace oil is dr...

Re: 'Round the World Weather Report
The storm is gone and flooding still going on for about two more days. Flooding seems to be the major problem. There is some tree and wind damage in the New York Metropolitan area but water seems to be the big problem. In my town of Bloomfield, New Jersey we lost no power but other areas did. I have...

Re: The Wonderful Deanna Durbin
Here are some quotes from Judy Garland after "Three Smart Girls" came out with Deanna. After Judy Garland and her mother saw THREE SMART GIRLS at the Pantages Theatre she remarked: "I couldn't believe that it was Deanna. She was so much more beautiful, and more poised, than she had ev...

Re: The Wonderful Deanna Durbin
This is the short film that started Deanna Durbin and Judy Garland on their careers. They were both 14 at the time. Deanna became an instant star and eventually making 21 movies. Judy came forth a few years later and of course we all know what she did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbyPCZhzaE8&...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
This goes back to several old threads about who is right for a part. There are many performers who have just plain "magnetic appeal" and many of us will watch their movies regardless of the plot and direction. I will watch any Esther Williams, Betty Grable, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, and...
