Re: Giallo
TCM dips its toe into the Giallo world with a rare showing of The Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) late tonight. Although the settings and characters are American, this film reeks of Italian influence and contains many of the hallmarks that define the genre. Check it out: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Re: Twins of Evil (1971)
I would agree, Vampire Lovers is probably the best of the trilogy, while this one is a close second for me. Hands of the Ripper, Countess Dracula, Captain Kronos, Dr.Jekyll & Sister Hyde, To the Devil a Daughter, and Fear in the Night are other late Hammers' I enjoy. Cushing is great in Twins , ...

Twins of Evil (1971)
A thoughtful analysis of Hammer's 1971 TWINS OF EVIL, just in time for the Halloween season:

Re: The October 2013 Schedule on TCM
A good month for me. A night of Samantha Eggar films. Unfortunately, most of them have played here before, but I'll set the recorder for Return From the Ashes (1965). It would be really nice for TCM to show Armando Crispino's The Etruscan Kills Again AKA The Dead are Alive (1972) (hint, hint): http:...

Coolest version of Theme for an Imaginary Western I've seen. Leslie was one of my biggest influences--and still is!

Re: Giallo
Nice little documentary on the genre. This was originally a DVD extra on Death Walks at Midnight (1971):

One of the best renditions I've heard of the themes from Cinema Paradiso (1990):

Re: The Best Marlowe
Obviously, we have differing perspectives. I don't think it's really fair to compare Altman's Marlowe to the book (or Hawk's film) as he is intentionally placed in a modern world of disillusionment in the post-Kennedy/60’s era. What is odd about Gould's character, is his belief in man's integrity in...

Re: The Wild Bunch (1969)
I am sure you are not equating the Bunch's march into the village and subsequent massacre to the fight to defeat Hitler and his monstrous regime. I am trying to have a conversation and agree to disagree and you seem to be trying to bait this discussion into something else. Everybody in this film is...

Re: The Wild Bunch (1969)
In The Wild Bunch, isn't it more of a choice between lesser evil and greater evil, rather than good and evil? I would say that is very much closer to what Peckinpah reveals. As Pike says to Dutch "He gave his word" indicates an idea of absolutes, Dutch counters with "It matters who y...
