Who do you feel is the better newsman ? I will not offer an opinion,except to say that I am ashamed to be of the same blood ( Celtic ) as one of the two gentlemen.

I have no favorites, but weren't Tom and Nicole great in Eyes Wide Shut. I am still scratching my head over that one.

DOA is a great Noir with Edmund O' Brien in top form. It is one of my favorites. The remake is a mess.

Both great Noirs star Burt Lancaster and are directed by the fabulous Robert Siodmak, I prefer Criss Cross because Yvonne DeCarlo is a " better " femme fatale (IMHO) and Dan Duryea is slimier than Albert Dekker. Both films feature great Miklos Rozsa Noir Musical Scores. I love The Killers ...

With Sidney Poitier( His first film ), Richard Widmak, and Linda Darnell is a break through film, not only because it was Poitier's debut, but because it dealt with racism head on in a noirish format. I think that it is a near great film.

Molly Haskell was the worst co -host ( hostess ) that " The Essentials " had and IMHO Carrie Fisher while not bad is not very good either. Who would you like to see co - hosting ?

Lee Marvin as Liberty in " The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

IMHO not as good as the Wayne - Ford joint efforts, but still might darn good. I think my favorite is " Winchester 73 ", with Millard Mitchell, Dan Duryea, Stephen Mcnally, and Shelly winter. The DVD even has Jimmy Stewart doing a commentary.

IMO was Ann Sheridan, with Joan Blondell in the runnerup spot. I think that was a shame that Joan - Cagney didn't appear more frequently together in film. Torrid Zone with Jimmy and Annie is coming out soon on DVD.

Now seems almost forgotten. I hope that she isn't ( forgotten ) on this forum !

Bringing Up Baby and The Awful Truth head my list. Twentieth Century with a fab ham performance by John Barrymore a close third. The last film is greatly aided by the perfomances of Walter Connally and Roscoe Karns as JB's much put upon assistants. The two gentlemen are of course Irish. Carole Lomba...
