Ruby Keeler
Aside from being Jolson's wife, did this Irish miss have any reason to be in films. Marion Davies, W.R. Hearst's mistress, at least had talent. Miss Keeler had no talent, charm, or looks IMHO

The Lady Eve
Maybe this post deserves to be put in the Comedy thread, but I am going to put it here. I have wondered for years how did Preston Sturges and Paramount get away with that stateroom scene where Henry Fonda has his face up against ( near ) Barbara's bosom.I thought that something like that was against...

Fox Noir Series
I have many Fox Noirs from the 1940's on DVD. All are very good, usually with fine audio commentaries. " Somewhere in the Night, starring John Hodiak is an exception. The Commentary is good, but the film, Directed by Joseph Mankiewicz, is rather boring, with an uninspired lead (Hodiak), an untr...

Naked City - No Whit Bissell !
Mark Hellinger's 1947 Production of " The Naked City " may seem like " old hat " today, but in its time it was a ground breaker. The " Law & Order, in its various guises, and CSI (a terrible group of shows ) owe their success to Jules Dassin's cop - crime thriller. I hav...

The Ox - Bow Incident DVD
Yes, I have the DVD. A good audio commentary with Bill Wellman, Jr. taking part. He is repetitive, but it is still very good.

The Great Dictator
Is " The Essential " that TCM is offering tonight. Chaplin lampooning Hitler. It is good, but for me the film doesn't work,as a whole. Jack Oakie is great and Chaplin's speech, at the end, terrific, good, but not great. Paulette Goddard is wasted in this film.

Sexy Noir Dames
I love Joan Bennett in " Scarlett Street " & " The Woman in the Widow ". Claire Trevor was one tough sexy dame in " Murder, My Sweet ", Linda Darnell was great ( and oh so sexy ) in " Fallen Angel ", and Barbara Stanwyck was ruthless and breathe takingly a...

Lady of Burlesque
Is likely a forgotten Barbara Stanwyck romantic - comedy - mystery that co - starred Michael O' Shea. Not a great film, but Barbara gets to show a great pair of gams, and this Irish lug LOVES to look at Ladies Legs

Ox - Bow Incident
The Ox - Bow Incident still carries a terrific punch more than sixty years after its original release. Directer William Wellman, "The High and the Mighty ', Nothing Sacred ", Yellow Sky ", and "Lady of Burlesque " ( Barbara Stanwyck ) bought the rights to the novel and it to...

My vote goes to " The Quiet Man ". All Irish cast, what else needs to be said, and starring the most beautiful woman of all time.

Halliwell's Who's Who In The Movies
Under its original title, " The Film Go'ers Companion ", I first purchased this " Encyclopedia " of film making in 1965. It was a must buy for me until Mr. Leslie Haliwell the original author and film researcher for Britian's Granada TV died in 1989, and since then while very goo...

Politics & Noir
Film Noir, from it's early days, has been dominated by artists of a decidedly leftist persuasion, if my obserservance is correct I wonder why that is? If I am not correct in my assessment please tell be where I have gone wrong.
