Myrna,
For some reason public libraries stock Harold Lloyd on DVD- good taste I guess KID BROTHER has a little of everything that is quintessential Harold. Also, his talkie THE CAT'S PAW is coming up soon again on TCM (early Monday morning) Worth a look.

...speaking of winning hearts, any reference to Gene Krupa will get my attention (or Jim Keltner). Thanks for your time here Ken. There is a quote by someone that states 'true revolutions in art restore more than they destroy' which made me think of your work which broadens the appeal of silent films...

charliechaplinfan, So many books have found their way to me in the last couple of years, mostly at used book sales, for a few dollars, I also found a 1927 first edition WINGS by John Monk Saunders- that was a lovely surprise! In My Father,Charlie Chaplin, Charles Chaplin Jr. shows insight into his m...

Yes, I wonder where that beautiful statue is! There was a by-law that no likenesses of the deceased were allowed as memorial statuary, apparently for good reason! The psychology of the obsessed fan is interesting, probably similiar to cults but let's hope Rudy made it across to the big dance hall be...

Matthew, It's challenging to classify responsible biographers as a genre but the rewards are infinite as your books stand the test of time for new generations. To capture the spirit of a person and tell their story goes far beyond facts and timelines, to be sure. I'll work on getting your book on ex...

Oops, of course and whatever side of a term paper you're on, there should be a celebration when all is said and done! It sounds like Marie Dressler's autobiographies are collectors' books, rare and unattainable, like Valentino's book of poetry DAY DREAMS and film distributors could consider reprinti...

Hello Mr. Kennedy! Marie Dressler really was a distinct and charming presence in film and I so look forward to reading your book and I shall also submit a request at my local (Canadian) library for others to have a reference copy. Having just started Frances Marion's well researched biography...

Thank you SSO for hosting this terrific conversation with Kevin Brownlow. Apologies for all the book talk below... Mr. Brownlow, your book MARY PICKFORD REDISCOVERED , written in collaboration with Robert Cushman, is full of wonderful goodies for a Pickford fan, which leads me to your reference to C...

moirafinnie, Thanks for mentioning the upcoming Lillian Gish films on TCM, which I would've missed and wept! I recently watched her and Bette in the WHALES OF AUGUST in a role I like to think is true to her own strength of character. Getting to know her from reading her autobiography THE MOVIES, MR....
