Re: Alice in Wonderland 1933

TCM actually aired the film about 4-5 years ago, during their W. C. Fields tribute. For several months they ran almost all of Fields' 1930s Universal/Paramount films repeatedly. I've seen parts of it. Given the costumes, makeup, and other various aspects, I think it may be the creepiest version of ...

Alice in Wonderland 1933

Has anyone seen this version of the film, with all the Paramount stars in cameos (and sometimes horrible costumes) as the various characters? I've not seen it in decades and have not noticed it getting an airing on TCM that I can recall. Is it lost to copyright hades? http://www.geocities.com/~rudyf...

Re: *CANDIDS*

And just for fun, here's Pola and Rudy in happier times, Mae Murray's wedding day to the sibling of Pola's future hubbo (once she got over the love of her life, the man she would love and mourn forever, Valentino, um 6 months later.....) Pola is wearing one of the more unattractive gowns of a Maid o...

Re: The great Oscar Levant

Levant was an excellent pianist, who had an extensive career in concert during the 1940s and 50s, although he professed a dislike of the concert stage. His recorded performances are not often heard on the radio any more. IMO, his version of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with Eugene Ormand...

Judith: That is one of my pet peeves too. Matt Dillon was always in those Kansas mountains. Last week I watched "They Died With Their Boots On" and the Civil War battle at Manassas that was staged was shot somehwere that didn't look anything like Manassas. Hmm, since I lived in Warrenton ...

Re: Olivia de Havilland's autobio May 4?

I met her in 1976-77 at the Vitaphone Theatre in Saratoga after a screening of Adventures of Robin Hood Rudyfan - The Vitaphone was my old stomping grounds back in the day, where I saw most of the classic films on the big screen for the first time. However, I don't recall hearing about OdH making a...

Re: Olivia de Havilland's autobio May 4?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're not kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been WAITING for this book since I met her in 1976-77 at the Vitaphone Theatre in Saratoga after a screening of Adventures of Robin Hood and she mentioned she was writing it. I thought, perhaps, she was going to wait to leave this planet...

Re: *CANDIDS*

Do you think the sword and shield came form one of his shopping sprees in Europe. I think Rudy knew Mae in New York before they both became famous, am I right Donna? Oh, I am sure much of this is from his European trip in 1924. He has many pieces of armour and various weapons. If you hit my website...

Re: *CANDIDS*

Hi Donna, Wow, that's some shield and the helmet above it!!! I'm glad to see that Rudy is photographed with a book and that there are books beside the fireplace. Did you know that Rudolph was a good friend of Mae Murray's and there is a picture of them in NYC out together just before he was taken i...

Re: *CANDIDS*

Hi Donna, This may have been the home he lived in with his DuPont wife. She was quite rich and very upper-class. And, rather shee-shee... I think her name was Maribelle and she was a friend of my grandmother. She was married to someone else by the time I knew her. (Obviously I didn't know her very ...

Re:

Kay Francis, A Passionate Life and Career by Lynn Kear and John Rossman is a good book, with its sources very well identified, but I felt it focused more on Kay's personal life rather than her career. Is her other biography I Can't Wait to Be Forgotten more focused on her career? I'm sorry I'm late...

Re: Angela Lansbury

I had the privilege to see Miss Lansbury on Broadway in Sweeney Todd with Len Cariou, back in 1979. They were both ab fab. 8) Oh, so did I, the original production was fabulous. Lansbury was simply marvelous as Mrs. Lovett, I count this as one of my all time favorite theater experiences. Right up t...

Larry, I wish I could see that show. I bet it exist somewhere in the archives of television.
