Mary Pickford 1959 Interview

Thanks to Harold Aherne over at Nitrateville for the links to this very interesting 1959 interview from the CBC with Mary Pickford. I enjoyed listening to it completely and while I think she skirted some danger spots nicely (How do I respond about Chaplin???) it's great to hear how sharp and relaxed...

Well, I'm rather glad that Rose McGowan will not be back for this go round. In all seriousness, who is she? Alec Baldwin will be entertaining, at least. I do find the lineup of films rather uninspired. Perhaps The Essentials should eb clearly identified as a "vintage" essential or a "...

Jeebus! How much pasta could Mario Lanza have burned off? That looks like he's got (maybe) 5lb weights on the bar! :-) But, he sure looks cute!

As usual, my buddy Mr. Klondike has me stupefied again with his 'sandwich' of Heston, Mitch, and Douglas. All I can figure is Mitch appeared in his usual vile self making Heston and Douglas look good. Unfortunately I know of a Mitchum/Douglas movie, but racking my brain trying to think of a teaming...

Astor's distinctively throaty voice served her very well: she could put so much anger and hurt into her voice, or sound so mature, wise and strong. Yet in comedies the voice always seemed to have such amusement behind it, a great sense of the absurdity of the situation, as though she were going to ...

And then, the icing on the cake for me: Dodsworth. She was all of the above, and beautiful, and loving. Oh Gah! You're right! I love LOVE her in Dodsworth . The Peyton Place story has me ROTFL! I'm glad Mary has some other advocates around here. I seriously need to do some homework.

Mary Astor

Since I mentioned in the "what are you reading" thread that I am currently reading both Mary Astor's My Story and A Life on Film , I thought she might be a pleasant point of discussion. I have always liked her performances, a good reliable name in the cast, to me. She was simply gorgeous, ...

I really want to read Miss Astor's books---I like her personality so much just from the bits I've read. Michael Sragow ( Victor Fleming )quoted from her a point-by-pont account of filming a "steamy" love scene between her and Gable in Red Dust . She had a wonderfully dry sense of humor, w...

Right now swtiching between Mary Astor's My Story and A Life on Film. My Story is a delicate balance between slightly scandalous revelation and coving tracks. I think remarkably frank in discussing her alcoholism and I knew nothing about her Catholicism. A Life on Film is more fun since there is a b...

Re: Another one of my foolish questions...

If a person wanted to write to an actor/actress/director, how would you go about obtaining the correct mailing address? I don't know where to begin, so could someone please help me out? I'd be most grateful. Thanks in advance. As always, Hiollis Might want to try the Screen Actors Guild or Director...

Also thanks for the Ginger Rogers' pic, I would love to have seen that deleted scene from Gold Diggers of 1933 , my guess is that's her singing "I've Got To Sing A Torch Song", I have an MP3 of it, but it's a shame that a Busby Berkeley number is likely lost. Really? Is the mp3 downloadab...
