mlid, I tend to agree with you. It's blatantly offensive, yet like most of Griffith's films has an undeniable power. It took watching several Griffiths for me to put BaoN aside and fully recognize his cinematic brilliance, so deeply did this one bother me. Of late I've become a Griffith defender -- ...

Amazing deal at Costco

I just got a coupon book from costco, and from June 2 - June 8 you can pick up James Bond Ultimate Collection, the United Artists 30 Disc Film Essentials or the Ford at Fox box set for the incredible price of $119 with coupon and Costco membership, of course. These days you'd save the membership pri...

Yes, it's based on the Hornung stories. Somewhere in the mess of stuff around here I have a disk with the 1925, 1930 and 1939 versons, but they're all in .avi format.

Re: Hi Mr. Kennedy, thank you for joining us!

Yeah, I went out on a limb on that one. Doris Day really tears it up with Cagney in Love Me or Leave Me . I haven't seen Hard to Handle , so now you've got me suuuppper curious. I like your reversal of the usual equation, that Cagney held his own against Blondell, not vice-versa. Matthew If you'll ...

Re: Hi Mr. Kennedy, thank you for joining us!

I agree with you wholeheartedly about Cagney and Blondell. In fact, I'd call them one of the great screen teams of all time. No other actress ever held her own against him as well. Far be it from me to disagree with our esteemed guest, but IMO the only actress who truly gave Cagney as good as he go...

Thanks for coming! My question (actually two) is about Blondell. It seemed like she was onscreen almost non stop before the code, but her roles slowed considerably afterward. To what extent do you think her popularity was tied to the lack of code enforcement. Also, what were the reasons that she was...

A Million Dollars

When I was waiting to see Underworld at the theater this weekend, they were showing lobby cards for various silents while waiting for the movie to begin. One was for Foolish Wives by Erich von Stroheim, and the tag line read "Von Stroheim creates the first REAL Million Dollar Picture!" My ...

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner seems lame today but was a groundbreaking film in its time. But Tracy's last scene is heartbreaking, especially with Hepburn in the background crying. I get choked up at that every time.

At least hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and over 4,000 American soldiers aren't dead because of that "lie."

I meant DVD of The Last Command, and yes, Alloy will be scoring. Their score for Underworld was beautiful and fit the film perfectly. I'd love to see a DVD of that as well.

You'll get your chance to make your wishes known to Mr. Kinokur eventually though. :)

I went to see this in a fantastic print and live accompaniment by Alloy Orchestra. Magnificent score to a great film. It was the first time I'd seen it and I was completely captivated. Incidentally, Alloy will be touring in the fall with von Sternberg's "The Last Command" even though it wo...

She's pretty easy on the eyes as well. I'm more likely to watch her Essentials sequences than any of the previous hosts.

I would bet that at least two of us, if not all three, would pick something by Ford.
Depends. Are we assuming that I already own Beyond the Valley of the Dolls?
