Re: Newbie silents

Find a film they personally would be able to relate to the most. I would say Wings is a good one to start with, mainly because its a film most people will enjoy. Make sure the setting is good too, show them on a large tv in a dark room. My first silent film was shown in a cathedral at night, it was ...

Best Prints?

Hi, I recently watched the 1922 Sherlock Holmes film with John Barrymore. And if you know me you know my constant hunt to watch more and more of Mr Barrymore's films. Now, I was very pleased with the quality of the print, which was thankfully restored a few years back. And I was wondering if anybody...

The Must Sees?

I was just wondering on my way home, what are the 'must see' Silent and pre code films. You know, the ones if you don't watch before a certain age you're probably crying your head off because of it.

Best Birthday Present EVER: THIN MAN BOX SET

Earlier this week was my birthday, and one the best gifts I was given was the box set of the Thin Man Movies. And I was wondering..what are peoples favourite Thin Man movies. I mean personally I love the first two without a doubt, but the other films give so much to the audience as well. http://3.bp...

Re: Pre-Code: Reunion In Vienna

Cheers, I wonder if they would let me, I am sadly living in what I call the 'no mans land' of classic American films..England. But I'll have a look. It looks like such a brilliant movie. If only these people knew how much pain they cause by not putting films on dvd :(

I've recently seen two Silents with Douglas Fairbanks Jr in. The first was The Power Of The Press and the second A Woman Of Affairs with Garbo and Gilbert.

Sadie Thompson...the worlds most annoying cliff hanger.

Picture this..one rainy afternoon last year...I'm in my living room glaring at the tv...I'm watching Gloria Swanson in Sadie Thompson...Lionel Barrymore has been getting at her....then suddenly you realize this guy isn't what he appeared to be and then!!---the video stops...the rest of the movie is ...

Re: The Incorrigible Dukane 1915...worth a watch?

He looks so young. I agree, Twentieth Century always makes me cry with laughter. A Bill Of Divorcement's a good one too. Always make me laugh, Barrymore playing Hepburn's father...after reading his biography and finding out he hit on her. There are many versions of that story...some tame...some not ...

Re: Will Children of Divorce ever be available on DVD??.

Thank you for the lovely welcome. A sent a quick email to the archive department at the UCLA asking if they know of any plans. So may hear back..earliest Monday...or never. Oh well, I suppose its all part of the game, having good taste in movies means we need some barriers to keep us alert. Cheers a...

The Incorrigible Dukane 1915...worth a watch?

I'm a big John Barrymore fan, and I've recently located a copy of The Incorrigible Dukane. Is there anyone who's seen this film and is it worth a watch. :?:
