Re: Harold Lloyd
Am I missing something or is WELCOME DANGER pretty awful? A half silent half talkie originally almost three hours is badly dubbed and frankly just not funny. And I usually likehim very much.

Re: What are you listening to?
Last night was spent attending a concert with Karla Bonoff and Jimmy Webb, Both primarily songwriters who also sing, it was a night of wonderful music, great stories, and a new found fondness for Miss Bonoff. Having been in the business since the 70s it is easy to see why Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie R...

Re: What recent films have you seen?
I recently saw "Bridge of Spies." I thought Hanks and Mark Rylance were quite good. There is a deliberate pacing with no action to speak of and I also didn't get the sense of menace that one might feel dealing with the Communists in that time. This seemed especially pointed in that he goes...

Re: The Searchers
Don't completely disagree. It does, for me, give a sense of time passing. I will admit to not being fond of the wedding day fight scene. My biggest problem in a Ford movie for an inappropriate comedy scene is the middle of "Cheyenne Autumn." It really gets in the way. It is far too long too.

Re: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
I have seen The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and, PT, I would agree. It is slower and things don't quite gel as well as they do in the first. There are some very poignant moments with good lessons for life but it wasn't quite as compelling as the first.

Re: The Beatles
Sir George Martin has died at age 90. More than a producer he was also an arranger and composer. He had several films to his credit, among them was "Yellow Submarine" and "Live and Let Die." I was 9 when I heard my first Beatles record. Not knowing much about any music except wha...

Re: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
I finally got to see this film. It is wonderful. It's a lovely quiet film full of wonderful performances. I love the characters. It is sometimes very funny but also rather poignant.
Well done.
Well done.

Re: Favorite Quotes and Exchanges in Television Programs
I loved "Jeeves and Wooster." Fry's "Jeeves" undying patience with the mostly moronic Wooster was such a quality in the show. Didn't care for the show's New York trip but everything else was wonderful.

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare
Lynn, you mentioned the scene in the courtroom that gets me every time too. What a gentle but powerful display of respect. We should all be so worthy. I did finish "Go Set A Watchman." It is an interesting read to see what was the genesis of "Mockingbird." The style and, for me, ...

This is also the one, I'm rather sure, where one of the scenes they mention there is a guy in the waiting area that looks like Ralph Bellamy, which, of course, it is Ralph Bellamy.

Re: Loretta Young
Took 80 minutes and watched "Love Is News: again. It is rare enough to see Tyrone Power in a comedy but everyone, Tyrone included, seems to be having great fun. Silly plot involves newspaper reporter (Power) and heiress (Young) who, naturally, can't stand each other while they are working out s...

Wound up with 29 at just north of Annapolis. It's a record. The county webite says it will be Tuesday before we get a plow.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
For a lark The Bride and I have been watching the Star War films in prep for finally seeing the new one. We are watching them in order of the stories Episodes 1 and 2 were okay but am rather ambivalent about Ep. 3. Parts of it I thought were quite good but I thought there was too many fighting/battl...
