William Powell and Robert Montgomery art

Very nice work. I think graphite work has so much more poignance than other mediums. Sort of like the difference between black and white and technicolor.

You are very talented. I particularly like the way you captured Mr. Montgomery's elegant persona.

Keep at it!
:)

Kay Francis

Welcome Scott: I remember that devastating quote about wanting to be forgotten forever. I read it in a fan site some time ago. What was at the heart of Kay Francis' deep melancholy? I read that she was ambivalent about her bisexuality and overwhelmed with guilt from abortions during her Hollywood he...

Skal's Monsters

- A P.S. to MikeBSG r/t Skal's other book you recommend: I will check it out. I, my husband and some associates had a UFO experience in the early 80's - "They're HERE!" :)

Skal's Monsters

Thanks for your insights MikeBSG. I'm just into the chapter where Skal begins to discuss the American reaction against the influx of German horror film art. I remember seeing about 3 minutes of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and I had to sign off: it as well as their Nosturatu (sic?) were too close to ...

The Monster Show by David J. Skal

Well, since I am a relatively new poster I hope you will forgive me :? if I mention a wonderful book that you've probably ALL been talking about for some time. - Just found it at the local library: "The Monster Show" by David J. Skal. It is described on the cover as 'A cultural history of ...

Gene Tierney Leave Her to Heaven

Anne Baxter wrote a fine autobiography, "Intermission" and in it, she relates her vivid memories of working on "The Razor's Edge" with GT, John Payne, Tyrone Power (who was involved in a romance with Tierney during filming) Herbert Marshall and Clifton Webb. - It's the wonderful ...

Wow: Thanks so much for telling me about Katherine Emery. - Was she a double for Mercedes, or what? You know, as a former singer, and a painter; sometimes of portraits, I always notice facial structure. It's sort of my theory that facial structure affects vocal tonal sound, naturally. - This woman e...

The Locket

I just love this film. We watch it over and over and always discover something new. Laraine Day was, as the script said: "The kind of girl you always dreamed of meeting." Gorgeously coiffed and photographed. - Better than ever Day was. - It is neat to watch how her 'look' changes as her pe...

Silent precodes

Howdy all. - I gotta say that I've got a problem, - but don't worry, it's probably neurologic and therefore there's probably no hope for me and so 'Why worry?'. That is: Why can't I remember the names of films when I sit down to blog? :( - I figure it's probably cause I usually write at the end of a...

Lee Remick

Thanks for your feedback. - I never saw The Detective either, but you know, it seems ol' blue eyes got better as he got older. - Could have become a serious actor. (Finally became a little of a serious person after his maturing marriage to Barbara Marx.) Can you recommend some of those cool-seeming,...

Lee Remick

There was a wonderful, unique magazine in days of yore, called 'Horizon' -but it wasn't exactly a magazine: it was a hardcover, slim publication that featured arts and culture of the highest order. - The one Hollywood actress they featured was Lee. Quite a compliment. I haven't seen The Omen. - Sinc...

Lee Remick

My husband adored Lee Remick. Class and a quiet loveliness. (Then why did he marry me?) Days of Wine and Roses was so fine. Her subtle performance was a perfect foil for Lemon's ofttimes over-the-top manic performances. - It is too bad that she didn't get to do Wait Until Dark. I think Audrey's perf...

Rudolph Valentino

There is something so ghoulish about obsessive fans. - Grave desecration is a very personal, eery kind of vandalism. - RV was big into spiritualism and the occult (not black arts). He believed he would live a fateful life and die young. The theatrics that occasioned his tragic death are legend. And ...

I'm just signing on to this topic and am fairly new to SSO. - I think you all are wonderful and so thought provoking. Dark Lover is indeed a fine book. I own it and often reread parts of it. Besides Rudy, the portrait in depth of Natasha Rambova/Winifred Hudnut is about the best I've seen. You can w...
