Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Not a silent, but I watched a pre-code film called The Naughty Flirt the other night starring Alice White as the titular flirt and a young Myrna Loy in a small role as the sister of a conniving gold digger (and no small gold digger herself). It's a fairly typical 30s farce, with rich people walking ...

Re: 2014 tv shows new and continuing
No, I keep meaning to look that up because of the opening credits of the show mentioning a miniseries. I have one episode to go, and then I have to wait until next year, so maybe I will give that a look. I usually get turned off of political dramas, but Kevin Spacey is just so delightfully nasty.

Re: 2014 tv shows new and continuing
I am looking forward to the the return of Once Upon a Time this weekend to ABC, and The Flash, on CW. As a comic fan, what I've seen of the latter so far pushes all the right buttons for me. Not dark and cynical like that Superman movie was. Just looks fun! (Warner Bros: Not every character is Batma...

OK, that makes 4; added. These are all subtitled foreign language films, right? Please pardon my ignorance!

Re: Fellini's Roma (1972)
I'm not aware enough of Fellini's work, something I should remedy. Can anyone recommend me a couple of good ones to start with? The best way to see Fellini is to watch his work chronologically. If you jump to Roma or 8 1/2 it's very difficult to get into his mindset & realize the evolution of h...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I'm so out of touch I know nothing at all about "Guardians." Is the source a comic book? Graphic novel? The young people I know are SO excited about it! It is based on a Marvel comic series, and set in the same "universe" as the Avengers, Iron Man, etc. A cameo villain in this f...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I was not expecting Guardians to be a good movie, and thought it would be Marvel Studios first misstep since they started making their own films with Iron Man. Boy, was I wrong. It's one of the best films of the year, if not the last several. I actually went to a theater twice and saw it, which I ha...

Re: Favorite TV Shows
I could drive myself batty considering the difference between realism and believability. But there is one. Something can feel genuine within the confines of the story, thanks to the creativity of writer and director, even though it would rarely happen in real life. Oh sure, they do it all the time ...

Re: Favorite TV Shows
I think it depends entirely on context. In an intense situation (i.e. an action/mystery show) you're going to have violence, because you'd have violence in those situations, and probably some language too. Being intended for entertainment, we viewers are only going to be privy to the most exciting d...

Re: Favorite TV Shows
I'm all for fewer restrictions, myself, with a few caveats. First, it should be after 9 PM. Second, it should be (as it is now) clearly noted what "rating" the show has. AMC has a "one F word per season" policy for their shows; for some reason, one is apparently ok, but not more!...
